Pedro Pascal’s Wicked Fantastic Four Costume Revealed: 1960s Style Takes the Internet by Storm!

Pedro Pascal has been cast as the MCU’s Reed Richards, Mister Fantastic, and his new Fantastic Four costume has been depicted in brilliant fan art.

Pedro Pascal has been imagined in a 1960s-inspired costume in new fan art ahead of his debut as Reed Richards’ Mister Fantastic in Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four. Since Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirmed the development of a Fantastic Four reboot in the MCU back in 2019, the rumor mill had been spinning regarding who would assume the four titular superhero roles. To celebrate 2024’s Valentine’s Day, Marvel Studios finally confirmed the cast of The Fantastic Four, including Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm.

The Fantastic Four’s Valentine’s Day announcement also provided several hints that Phase 6’s Fantastic Four reboot will be set during the 1960s, which suggests that some classic Marvel Comics costumes may be adapted for the live-action MCU. Pedro Pascal has been imagined in such a costume in brilliant new fan art shared by Pvilly_Artist.

This art shows Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards sporting a sweater-style turtle-neck with the Fantastic Four’s logo on the chest. There has been some doubt that Pascal is the right fit for the MCU’s Mister Fantastic, but this art proves that he fits the handsome super-genius perfectly.

The Fantastic Four’s 1960s Theme Is A Great Choice For The MCU

Although there has been no official confirmation of The Fantastic Four’s setting, Marvel Studios’ Valentine’s Day poster for the upcoming Phase 6 project (via X) all but confirms that The Fantastic Four will be set in the 1960s. The appearance of retro robot assistant HERBIE, Ben Grimm’s photograph as an Apollo astronaut, and the LIFE Magazine issue from December 1963 that the Thing is reading all hint towards a period setting for the project. Beyond that, the decor and costumes of the Fantastic Four team couldn’t be more on the nose, and this 1960s setting may be the perfect choice.

The Fantastic Four made their Marvel Comics debut in 1961, so their MCU debut will surely be inspired by some of their original storylines. This takes them back to their roots, rather than making an attempt to modernize them, which failed in 20th Century Fox’s previous Fantastic Four movies. Setting The Fantastic Four in the 1960s also allows Marvel Studios to examine an unexplored period of the MCU’s history, while separating the team from present day superheroes. The Fantastic Four will surely bring Marvel’s First Family into the MCU’s current stories, but they’ll embark on their own 1960s-set adventure first.
