“Our movie is not like any MCU movie”: Shawn Levy Claims Deadpool 3 Can Resolve Kevin Feige’s Biggest Post Avengers: Endgame Problem

It’s about time the MCU shakes things up a little and Shawn Levy’s ‘Deadpool 3’ will make sure to do so.

Excitement is at an all-time high as in just a little over a month, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will be returning to their iconic roles in Deadpool 3 a.k.a. Deadpool & Wolverine. Anyone who has been far from the superhero genre for the longest time will vouch that things have been a little dull lately and that superhero fatigue exists even in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fans are impatiently waiting to watch Deadpool & Wolverine

After Marvel Studios knocked the ball out of the park with Avengers: Endgame in 2019, things have not been looking for the superhero world. However, director Shawn Levy plans on changing this for the better with Deadpool 3 as he aims to break the mold with the film.

Shawn Levy Talks About Deadpool 3

Deadpool and Wolverine jump into a portal in Deadpool 3

In a recent interview with Total Film for the magazine’s new issue, Shawn Levy opened up about Deadpool 3 and how it could change the current state of the MCU.

While there are many questions being raised about the superhero universe, Levy hopes that his upcoming film will be the perfect answer to all of them.

He stated, We had no idea it would be this unique moment where people are asking what the MCU means any more. Can it surprise us? Can it break molds in ways that we don’t expect? We certainly hope that this movie is an answer to those questions.

He then went on to talk about the empire that Kevin Feige has managed to build over time in terms of the successful movies MCU has put out back-to-back. However, Levy rightfully added that “culture has its tide chart” meaning that nothing can stay in a uniform motion forever. There will be fluctuations thanks to the dynamic and ever-changing nature of culture.

According to him, Deadpool 3 is unlike any other MCU film that the fans have seen so far. Clearly, Levy has had some tricks up his sleeve that he apparently used in order to make his film one of the best in the genre by shaking things up and challenging the “culture” that the superhero universe has established.

What Kevin Feige has built with the MCU is historic as far as a string of successes, but culture has its tide chart, culture has ebbs and flows, and one thing we do know is you can’t keep doing the same thing ad nauseum and expect people to greet it with the same excitement. And so it just worked out really fortuitously because our movie is not like any MCU movie. Yeah, and I say that as a fan of a lot of MCU movies.

Just when we think we cannot get more thrilled about the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-starrer, something like this happens, and we are jumping with excitement all over again.

Can Deadpool 3 Fix One of the MCU’s Biggest Problems?

Given what Levy had to say about the MCU and Deadpool 3, we are hopeful that the film will be able to help the Marvel Studios crawl out of the problems they have recently been facing at the box office.

After Avengers: Endgame made a whopping figure of two billion dollars at the box office, no other film managed to come close to the number with the exception of Spider-Man: No Way Home which brought in $1.9 billion.

While many films had an impressive box office run, it is nowhere close to what Endgame did. For example, Spider-Man: Far From Home made $1.1 billion, Doctor Strange 2 made $952 million, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 made $845 million.

While these figures may sound good enough, it is also important to make a note of the films’ ginormous budgets and the fact that these are products of MCU where once films didn’t have a tough time touching a billion dollars at the box office, that is, in the pre-Endgame era.

Not to mention that there are other films in the MCU that didn’t even cross the $500 million mark including Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Black Widow. On top of that, Marvel Studios’ latest film The Marvels only crawled its way to $199 million, proving that superhero fatigue is becoming rampant in the film industry.

However, thanks to Levy’s confident words along with everything we have learned so far about Deadpool 3, we are sure that the film will bring the theatres back to life and will rake in a huge figure at the box office.
