Messi, the dig from Anatomy of a Fall garnered attraction while RDJ was giving his first ever Oscar acceptance speech.
And finally, Robert Downey Jr takes home much much-deserved Academy Award. For his performance in Christopher Nolans’s Oppenheimer where he played the key role of Lewis Strauss. The Iron Man actor was earlier nominated twice in the same category but could not convert them to a win, but his time his brilliant performance beat some really strong contenders including Robert De Niro for Killers of the Flower Moon, Ryan Gosling for Barbie and Mark Ruffalo for Poor Things to win the coveted award.
While he was taking the stage to receive the award and give his acceptance speech, he got a standing ovation as everyone believed he was the most deserving one. After having a career with so many great movies and in particular his run at the MCU, he not having won an Academy Award was no less than a mystery for the movie buff. Meanwhile, the dog from Anatomy of a Fall, which has won the Best Original Screenplay category took the focus.
Messi, the dog from Anatomy of a Fall Attracts Attention While Robert Downey Jr Was Giving Acceptance Speech
Robert Downey Jr came third time lucky as he after two failures finally won an Academy Award. Before tonight, the actor has won every major award including Golden Globes, SAG Award, Critics Choice Award, and BAFTA for his turn as Strauss.
And, having won the award, he thanked his childhood and the Academy. He beamed, “I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy — in that order.”
Thanking his wife, Susan Downey, err “veterinarian,” the actor heralded: “She found me as a snarling rescue pet and loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here, thank you.”
“Here’s my little secret, I needed this job more than it needed me. Chris (Nolan) knew it, Emma (Thomas) made sure she surrounded me with one of the great casts and crews of all time — Emily, Cillian, Matt Damon, Blunt — it was fantastic and I stand here a before you a better man because of it,” said Downey, Jr.
“What we do is meaningful, and the stuff we decide to make is important,” the actor continued.
And, everyone was quite happy seeing him win. And it was seen that his competitor Ryan Gosling also clapped for him with a smile. But what gained the attention was the dog from Anatomy of a Fall.
At the Oscars 2024 ceremony, held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, Oppenheimer received a total of 13 nominations.
The Battle Between Robert Downey Jr. and Ryan Gosling Garnered Attraction
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie took the world by storm. Both the films were released on the same day. While the box office battle has been won by Barbie, Oppenheimer was way ahead in the race at the Oscars with 13 nods.
Ryan Gosling who played Ken, Barbie’s superfluous paramour was up against Robert Downey Jr in the Best Actor in a Supporting Role category but lost it to him. His tour de force performance as Lewis Straus in Oppenheimer has blown everyone away and won every major acting award held in the past months.
He has overshadowed all his fellow nominees including Ryan Gosling. Though Gosling’s job as Ken in Barbie stole the show completely, RDj was ahead of him. No surprise took place in the category and as expected Downey Jr took home the award.
