“One thing in particular that my character does”: Vincent D’Onofrio Teases a Kingpin Scene He Still Can’t Believe Kevin Feige Allowed to be in Daredevil: Born Again

Vincent D’Onofrio recently gave an interview where he revealed that Daredevil: Born Again is not going to tone down its violence in any way.

Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin stands out in front of all versions of the character for a reason. Wilson Fisk is an important villain to many characters, and even though he is just a man, the power and control he holds over the city of New York have turned him into a man who should be feared. The one from 2015’s Daredevil has a level of humanness to him, which makes it difficult for the audience to completely hate him.

While that is one part of his character, he is also ruthlessly violent in the Netflix show. Since the cancellation of the series and his comeback to the MCU in Echo and Hawkeye, fans have been curious about how Daredevil: Born Again is going to treat his character. During a recent interview, D’Onofrio spoke on exactly this.

Kingpin in Disney Shackles?

One of the biggest concerns that fans had when they heard about Daredevil: Born Again was that the series would tone down its violence. When Netflix was making the original series, they did not shy away from the violent origins of the character, and the original series was quite graphic.

However, knowing about Disney’s inevitable involvement with the new series, many have been concerned that the new series will be afraid of getting its hands dirty and play it safe with its fight scenes. Vincent D’Onofrio recently gave an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, where he addressed these exact concerns to ease the fans and their worries.

He started by talking about one scene in particular, teasing what the fans could expect from the franchise.

I think there is a scene in the [show] where you fight. That’s extremely cool and it’s going to be exciting.

Turning to Charlie Cox, he mentioned that there is one particular scene in the series where the Matt Murdock actor himself fights instead of using a stunt double. While many may be concerned with this knowledge, thinking that the scenes must be very easy if the actors can do them without the help of stunt doubles. However, what D’Onofrio said next did not leave room for such worries.

Nothing to Hold Back the Kingpin

After revealing a small piece of information about one fight sequence, Vincent D’Onofrio was asked if fans can expect the upcoming series to be somewhat toned down when it comes to violence. The original Daredevil series had a lot of graphic violence, ranging from stabbing themselves in the eye to being doomed to withstand the punishments of Frank Castle.

The actor was very candid with his response and raised the expectations of the fans even more. D’Onofrio mentioned that several moments in the new series are extremely dark. Doing a comparison with the original series, he surprised many fans by stating that oftentimes, Daredevil: Born Again has gone a lot darker in its graphic violence than the original series.

There are somethings in this show, that we go much further with than we did on the original show. There’s one thing in particular that my character does that I can’t believe made it into the cut.

Kingpin

While many fans would have been satisfied and ecstatic with this itself, he continued, hinting at one more detail about the series. Talking about one particular scene in the new show, the actor mentioned that his character does something darker than he has ever done before. So much so, that he was convinced that it would not make it into the final cut, but it did.

Knowing that the creators know exactly what the fans want seemed to only add to the faith they have in the upcoming series.

Daredevil: Born Again will release on Disney+ in March 2025.
