Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi could potentially help revive the show with a new storyline but the show was unexpectedly canceled.
Silk: Spider Society had the potential to make it to the screen but despite the initial development, the show was recently scrapped at Amazon. Sony Pictures Television’s producers ordered the development of the drama based on the characters from Marvel comics (Sony owns part of several Marvel characters).
Angela Kang, who hasThe Walking Dead to her credit as a creator, was set to run the Silk: Spider Society. It might have been a shocker for many fans as the show could have unveiled several interesting details from Sony’s Spider-Man saga as well as the origin story of Silk.
Simu Liu Can Save Silk: Spider Society With A New Storyline
Sony-produced Marvel series Noir, starring Nicolas Cage is moving at Amazon but the studio has decided to leave Silk: Spider Society despite the fair hype surrounding the show. However, Smiu Liu’s Sang-Chi could help the show survive with one crucial Marvel storyline.
During the War of the Realms, Jimmy Woo, one of the secret agents in Marvel Comics, assembled a new team of heroes to defend the Pacific Rim. The rest of Woo’s new Agents of Atlas team, which included the Master of Kung Fu (Shang-Chi), Silk, and Woo himself. Together, they prepared to confront the ongoing threats of the War (per Marvel). The story is fascinating and the connection of Silk with Liu’s Shang-Chi would make an interesting angle for the show.
Korean-American teenager Cindy Moon became Silk as she gets bitten by the same radioactive spider that had also bitten Peter Parker aka Spider-Man. She has Silk-sense, superhuman strength complemented by superhuman speed, agility, and endurance. Further, she is a trained hand-to-hand combatant, has a photographic memory, and is a capable researcher. Also, she can track Peter Parker anywhere across the Multiverse.
Simu Liu Is Devastated After Silk: Spider Society Was Scrapped
It is unclear why Amazon scrapped the project but the show had the potential to be an addition to the larger Sony’s Spiderverse. At this point, it is hard to speculate if Sony would agree to trade Silk with Disney.
Marvel and Sony’s shared universe has found success with several projects including Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise. But the news of Silk: Spider Society getting canceled at Amazon has devastated Sang-Chi actor, Liu. The actor took to X to share his thoughts on the show’s cancellation.
Really gutted that Silk: Spider Society isn’t moving forward at Amazon. Don’t know any details of what went on in the development process, but as a fan I was extremely excited for the world to see Cindy Moon in action.
The actor further urged fans to advocate for the character, “I hope fans continue to advocate for Silk to be seen!!!” as fans’ demand could propel Sony to rethink the appearance of the character on screen. But for now, Liu and fans must endure the bad news.
