Ok, so I’m finally starting to see how Sam Wilson’s Captain America can stand a chance against Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World. I’ve been pretty skeptical for a while now regarding how Wilson will actually be able to fight a full-on Hulk in the MCU without getting absolutely pummeled from the get-go. However, a new reveal from Marvel Studios does make me more confident about their imminent showdown.

Captain America: Brave New World is the next MCU movie which is set to release on February 14th, 2025. Starring Anthony Mackie as the MCU’s new Captain America, Sam Wilson will initially work for and then clash with Harrison Ford’s US President Ross who will eventually transform into the Red Hulk. To that end, I’m starting to get how a Captain America and Red Hulk fight will actually work thanks to a new tease from Marvel and a familiar ability Wilson will have in the new movie.

Captain America vs Red Hulk Definitely Feels Like An Uneven Match-Up

Sam Wilson Doesn’t Even Have The Super Soldier Serum

Across the board, I and other MCU fans have been extremely skeptical regarding Sam Wilson’s actual ability to feasibly take on a Hulk, regardless of what color they might be. After all, it’s been proven that even the God of Thunder has struggled to fight the Strongest Avenger in the MCU, as Thor: Ragnarok proved with the duo’s brawl essentially ending in a tie. Keeping that in mind, Sam Wilson doesn’t even possess the Super Soldier serum that was given to Steve Rogers, the original Captain America.

For all his proven heroism and ability, it’s really hard to imagine Sam Wilson successfully taking out the Red Hulk as a normal human, even if this new Red Hulk ends up sharing the same weaknesses as his comic counterpart, where he might eventually overheat. However, it seems as though Sam Wilson’s equipment shouldn’t be discounted as a means of evening the odds. While the vibranium shield should prove useful, a new tease suggests that it’s all going to come down to the wings.

Kinetic Absorption Thanks To Vibranium

Briefly shown in a new TV spot for Brave New World, Sam Wilson’s Captain America can be shown taking a major hit from the Red Hulk. However, the important thing to take note of is the glowing blue energy surrounding his wings after he’s hit. This appears to be the same kinetic absorption ability that’s seen in the MCU’s Black Panther suits, having been first developed by Princess Shuri in 2018’s Black Panther. Thanks to the vibranium woven materials, the suits can absorb the kinetic energy of incoming blows to later be redistributed with great effect.

With that in mind, it seems as though Sam Wilson’s wings will likely have the same ability in Brave New World. Likewise, this does make sense seeing how Sam was given the new vibranium wings by the Wakandans in 2021’s Falcon and the Winter Soldier. At least in my mind, this feels like a pretty big sign that Sam Wilson has some pretty good defenses at his disposal to make up for the lack of Super Soldier serum, and perhaps even some potential offensive abilities assuming the wings can redistribute the energy from Red Hulk’s hits.

Captain America’s Wings Will Keep Him In The Fight

For as hard as Sam Wilson will be hit by Red Hulk in Brave New World, it looks like vibranium is going to be the way for him to keep standing and even get some hits of his own as well. As such, I’m way more excited than I was about their upcoming showdown. The fight needs to feel reasonably feasible, even if Bruce Banner’s Hulk ends up arriving in a major cameo to finish the job and take on Ross’ Red Hulk (which is just hopeful conjecture). At any rate, it does seem as though the match-up between the new Captain America and the new Red Hulk will be all kinds of entertaining, and not nearly as one-sided as I previously thought.
