“No One Has Guessed Correctly”: Giancarlo Esposito Responds To Captain America 4 Villain Casting Theories

Giancarlo Esposito plays coy about who he is supposedly playing in Captain America: Brave New World after the movie’s trailer teased the character he is set to appear as in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2025. Following the ending of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier TV show, Sam Wilson’s time as Captain America is getting a bigger spotlight, this time headlining his own movie in the MCU timeline. Captain America: Brave New World will explore Sam as the titular hero, having fully taken over after Steve Rogers’ retirement.

One of the new Captain America: Brave New World cast members will be Esposito, whose character is currently being kept under wraps. With the MCU audience actively speculating, Esposito (via Comic Book Movie) recently spoke at a convention about how no one has correctly guessed who he is actually going to be portraying in the upcoming Marvel movie release, stating the following:

The character I’m playing is a badass. That always excites me. For me to develop that character in line with the character’s inception is a fascinating art for me. I had an incredible time shooting it. I’m not telling you who I’m playing…people are trying to guess and no one has guessed correctly yet.

Esposito has teased numerous times that his MCU role will be significant, raising the question of who he is actually playing in Captain America: Brave New World. One of the theories that has been gaining a lot of traction lately is the idea of Esposito playing George Washington Bridge, a talented mercenary who is affiliated with the Six Pack team. While G.W. Bridge is a more obscure character, it wouldn’t be shocking if Marvel Studios reimagined him for the world of live-action, thus having a major talent like Esposito attached to that role.

However, there are a lot of other Marvel villains that Marvel Studios may have tapped Esposito to play in the MCU. With the X-Men reboot being in the works, Esposito – who was a popular fan cast to play Professor X – could play someone like William Stryker to plant the seed for the upcoming mutant team-up film. It’s also key to remember that Esposito has stated that whoever he is playing, the character will be either part of or lead his own MCU TV series, meaning Captain America: Brave New World will only be the beginning of the actor’s MCU adventure.

While Marvel Studios will possibly keep the character a mystery until next year, it would also not be shocking if Esposito’s character gets revealed at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Since Marvel Studios is confirmed to attend Hall H, it would be a major moment to not only have Esposito there with the rest of the Captain America: Brave New World, but also reveal at last who he is playing. However, for now, MCU fans will have to wait and see what role Esposito will have in Captain America: Brave New World.
