Before Jensen Ackles surprised the world with the most fantastic performance as Soldier Boy in The Boys, fans wanted the actor to take on a live-action superhero role. While the Supernatural star isn’t new to playing a superhero, especially since his role as the Caped Crusader in the DC Animated Universe. However, one role had rumors going about left and right.

Jensen Ackles was rumored to have auditioned for the role of Captain America, one that evidently went to Chris Evans. Once the rumors started flying around, fans were jumping up and down wanting to see the actor take on the shield one way or another. The only way they were able to was because of Eric Kripke’s series. However, there may be another way.

Jensen Ackles Never Auditioned for Captain America

Rumors about Jensen Ackles auditioning for the role of Captain America had been going around for quite some time with fans almost sure that the actor came close to bagging the role before Chris Evans swept it away. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor finally clarified whether or not the rumors were true.

“Did I audition for Captain America? No, I did not. I don’t necessarily know, was that an auditioning kind of a thing? I feel like they just met with people on that. I was not available, anyway,”
Ackles added. “So, I don’t think they [Marvel] were going to work around my schedule.”

Ackles stated that it was not true at all. He wasn’t even sure whether he gave an audition or not. Despite what many people had assumed, the actor was never in the run for playing Steve Rogers. However, there is no denying that he got to play at least a version of the character through Soldier Boy in The Boys.

Ackles also confirmed that whether or not he auditioned for the role, his schedule was already packed to the brim for him to accommodate another major role. Especially because he was still barely halfway done with Supernatural.

Jensen Ackles Could Still Join the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Fans may have missed out on watching Jensen Ackles as the Star Spangled Man but that doesn’t mean the opportunity is gone away completely. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is branching out into the Multiverse, literally. With this, there are various variants appearing throughout the films and shows the franchise is releasing. Each of them gives a unique outlook to otherwise concrete characters.

Seeing how Avengers: Secret Wars is also underway, there is no doubt the fans would meet a series of variants of their fan-favorite characters. The perfect opportunity to introduce Ackles into the MCU would be through this movie.

Having already adorned a shield through Solider Boy, if the Avengers go up against an evil version of Captain America, that would be a twist both dark and unexpected. Fans could get Ackles as Captain America as well, at least a version of him.
