Cable sent to US embassy in 1963 suggests royal involvement in Profumo affair

Prince George steals the show in royal family photo

Prince George is celebrating his 11th birthday today, as Kensington Palace has released a new photograph of the future monarch.

The image, posted on Kensington Palace’s social media accounts, was taken by Kate at Windsor earlier this month.

The black and white shot shows the future King looking smart and grown up in an open-necked white shirt and dark blazer as he smiles at the camera.

Meanwhile, Prince Phillip has been named in top-secret FBI documents suggesting he could have been “involved” in the Profumo affair.

The historic sex scandal revealed that John Profumo, the then 46-year-old Secretary of State for War had an affair with 19-year-old model Christine Keeler in 1961.

The pair were introduced by osteopath Stephen Ward, whose friendship with Prince Phillip was featured in the Netflix series The Crown.

Decades after the scandal, the Mail on Sunday have obtained a cable sent from from the then-head of the FBI, J Edgar Hoover, sensationally suggesting the royal’s involvement.

A cable sent to the US embassy in London on June 20, 1963 reads: “Corbally also stated there was a rumour Prince Philip may have been involved with these two girls.”
