A new Avengers team could form in the MCU under the supervision of a minor Marvel Studios character who got a larger role in Phase 4’s WandaVision.
After getting a bigger role in Phase 4’s WandaVision, one of Marvel Studios’ more minor characters could be inspired to bring together his own team of Avengers in the MCU. In the wake of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and the conclusion of the MCU’s Infinity Saga, the status of the Avengers team has remained unclear, but Marvel Studios has instead been setting up several other superhero teams that could form before the Multiverse Saga comes to an end. While some of these potential Avengers replacements have been teased overtly, there may be others that are being set up in the shadows.
The MCU’s official Avengers team is expected to reform with a new line-up in 2026’s Avengers 5, but several other teams have been set up in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. The Marvels marked the first official hint at the Young Avengers, Thunderbolts will build a team of MCU antiheroes, the Defenders have recently been made MCU canon, and Blade could finally establish the Midnight Sons. However, 2021’s WandaVision, the first Marvel Studios Disney+ series, may have also laid the foundations for another superhero team, as Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo was given a more substantial role in the Phase 4 series.
Jimmy Woo Could Form The Agents Of Atlas In The MCU
Recent speculation suggests that FBI agent Jimmy Woo may bring together the Agents of Atlas in the MCU. Created by writer Jeff Parker and artist Leonard Kirk, the Agents of Atlas made their Marvel Comics debut as a team in the alternate universe storyline of 1978’s What If #9, but were established in Marvel Comics’ main continuity in 2006’s Agents of Atlas #1. While Jimmy Woo brought together the team’s first iteration to save President Eisenhower from the villainous Yellow Claw, a new line-up formed in 2019’s War of the Realms event featuring some of Marvel’s most powerful Asian heroes.
Note: Marvel Comics’ original Agents of Atlas team comprised Jimmy Woo, Namora, Venus, the Uranian, a.k.a. Marvel Boy, the Gorilla-Man and M-11, a.k.a. the Human Robot.
Alongside Jimmy Woo, this Agents of Atlas team included Korean American Hulk Amadeus Cho, Chinese Shang-Chi, Korean America Spider-Man-like hero Silk, Korean heroes White Fox, Crescent, Io and Luna Snow, Chinese heroes Sword Master and Aero, Filipina Wave, and Hawaiian goddess Pele. This formidable line-up formed one of Marvel Comics’ most powerful superhero teams, and was a major step forward for Asian representation in Marvel Comics. Marvel Studios took a similar step with the release of 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and the formation of the Agents of Atlas could continue this exciting and important pattern.
3. Agents Of Atlas Members May Have Already Been Teased In The MCU
Since many members of the Agents of Atlas team haven’t yet appeared in the MCU, it could be assumed that their formation is far off. However, three potential members of the live-action Agents of Atlas may have already been introduced to the MCU. Following their adventure in Ta Lo in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Simu Liu’s titular Shang-Chi, the new owner of the Ten Rings, and Awkwafina’s Katy were met by Benedict Wong’s Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme. This was to investigate the Ten Rings’ mysterious beacon, but their connection could have teased a new MCU team.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ mid-credits scene saw Shang-Chi, Katy and Wong singing karaoke, proving that they’ve already established a solid bond of friendship in the MCU. These three heroes would be the perfect foundations for the MCU’s Agents of Atlas, as both Shang-Chi and Katy are of Chinese descent, while Wong’s origins are less clear, but his affinity to Kamar-Taj suggests he could be Nepalese. These three heroes have already put their names on the map, so it wouldn’t be hard to imagine Jimmy Woo tracking them down and recruiting them for his Asian superhero team.
Who Could Join Jimmy Woo’s Agents Of Atlas Team?
As well as Shang-Chi, Katy and Wong, there are already several other potential Agents of Atlas members in the MCU. Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 introduced Gemma Chan’s Eternal Sersi, and Chan’s Hong Kong heritage makes her perfect for the team, perhaps alongside Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo. Pakistani American Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, portrayed by Iman Vellani, could also assume a role on the team, as she was offered a spot on the team in Marvel Comics, while Mabel Cadena, who played Talokanil Namora in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has also expressed interest in being included in the Agents of Atlas.
Note: Namora was included among the first line-up of the Agents of Atlas in Marvel Comics, and has worked with Jimmy Woo for a number of years.
Following recent developments in the world of Marvel Television, with Netflix’s Defenders Saga being made canon to the MCU, and Agents of SHIELD speculated to be next, it’s possible some of Marvel Television’s Asian heroes could also be brought back for the MCU’s Agents of Atlas team. Jessica Henwick’s Colleen Wing, Chloe Bennet’s Daisy Johnson and Ming-Na Wen’s Melinda May could all be included in the team. More comic-accurate characters could also be introduced, including Silk, Amadeus Cho, White Fox and Wave, with Phase 4’s WandaVision putting the FBI’s Jimmy Woo in the perfect position to bring these heroes together.
