Virgin River has captured attention of viewers, as they eagerly wait for the upcoming season, many are left questioning what will happen to Charmaine Roberts, especially after the cliffhanger ending of season 6.

In the finale, Jack discovers Charmaine’s house has been ransacked, and both she and her twins are nowhere to be found. With Charmaine having recently filed a restraining order against Calvin, the biological father of her children, the disappearance leaves viewers fearing for her life.

The Netflix show, which has been a hit since 2019, is based on Robyn Carr’s bestselling book series. So, how does her storyline develop in the novels.

What happens to Charmaine in the Virgin River books

The news for fans of the show, is that Charmaine does not die in the book version of Virgin River. Although, this is because her character has a much smaller role, that she does in the Netflix series.

In the books by Robyn Carr, Charmaine is not as involved with Jack Sheridan’s life.

In fact, Charmaine is not even a major presence in the town of Virgin River for very long. She doesn’t stay in the town permanently, or is she pregnant with Jack’s twins – two major plot points that were introduced in the TV series.

As a result, the dramas of custody battles, legal confrontations, and threats from Calvin’s criminal past simply do not exist in the books.

While Charmaine’s role in the novels is relatively straightforward, the TV series took her character and dramatically expanded on it.

One of the biggest twists in the show comes in season 5, when it’s revealed that Calvin, the local gangster, is the father of Charmaine’s twins, not Jack.

This leads to a chain of events, which eventually escalates with Calvin taking legal action against her for custody of the children.

During season 6, Charmaine manages to secure full custody of her twins, preventing Calvin from being involved in their life. However, he is furious with the outcome, holding Jack responsible for the custody battle resulting in Calvin vowing to do whatever it takes to get his two babies back.

This leads to the cliffhanger in Season 6, when Jack visits Charmaine’s house after she misses his wedding. He finds signs of forced entry, and when he checks the twins’ room, he discovers something shocking, leaving viewers eagerly waiting to find out what happens next.

However in the novels, their is a much quieter approach to Charmaine’s character, her life is much steady and safe and she eventually moves on from Virgin River.

So viewers will have to wait until season seven to find out what has happened to Charmaine and her two children.

This cliffhanger left fans wondering whats next for Charmaine, as they took to Reddit to discuss the season finale.

One fan wrote: “My guess is that the babies are taken and Charmaine was left incapacitated in some way hence Jack’s shocked expression.”

While another disagreed stating: “Maybe she killed Calvin and then went into shock?” As another chimed in saying: “My guess is he kidnapped her.”
