Best known for his role in Netflix’s Outer Banks series, actor Chase Stokes has finally landed a promising replacement franchise in the form of the Uglies adaptation. Before landing the role of Peris in the sci-fi movie, Stokes had small parts in series like Stranger Things, Daytime Divas, and The First, as well as the made-for-TV movie The Beach House. As John B. Routledge, Stokes leads Outer Banks‘ cast of characters, acting as the group’s ever-determined ringleader. The three-season action-adventure series delves into the titular area’s class divide as a defining element.

Uglies Is Filling The Void Before Outer Banks Season 4’s Premiere

With Outer Banks season 4 looking like one of the show’s last outings, Uglies could be the perfect franchise for Stokes to co-lead going forward. Based on Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies novel, which is the first installment in a trilogy of the same name, the Netflix movie is set in a dystopian world where physical beauty is prized above all else. When inhabitants of the city turn 16 years old, they must undergo government-mandated cosmetic surgery, which transforms them from Uglies, a.k.a. normal people, into Pretties, symmetrical-yet-vapid denizens who party harder and care less.

Joey King, who plays protagonist Tally Youngblood, leads Uglies‘ cast of characters. Stokes, who plays Tally’s long-time pal, Peris, co-leads the movie, which is packed with as much action and adventure as any season of Outer Banks. When it’s time for Peris to undergo his Transformation, Tally fears being left behind. Even though Peris promises that they’ll be friends when she becomes a member of the Pretties, the city’s mysterious Dr. Cable (Laverne Cox), has other plans for Tally. When Peris convinces Tally to help Cable root out some rebels, he’s also given a second transformative procedure.

How Chase Stokes’ Peris Uglies Character Compares To Outer Banks’ John B

The Actor Plays A Great Determined Lead In Both Netflix Projects

Although they inhabit completely different worlds and genres, John B. and Peris definitely share some similarities, making Stokes a perfect choice for both characters. Determined to find his father — and the long-lost treasure — John B. will stop at nothing to unravel Outer Banks‘ many mysteries. As the leader of the teenage Pogues, John B. is also incredibly charismatic and convincing. While his anger can sometimes get the best of him, John B. is always concerned about his friends — and loyal to a fault.

In Uglies, Peris’ transformation stunts some of his more admirable qualities, but his earlier interactions with Tally give viewers a good sense of who Peris is deep down. Much like John B., Peris is incredibly loyal to Tally, his long-time best friend, and is determined to create a future where the two of them remain close. Given Peris’ ending in Uglies, he isn’t able to show off other qualities yet. However, if the Uglies movie series continues, viewers will get a much better sense of Stokes’ character.
