Two years after the initial release of Moon Knight on Disney+, it now seems as though Marvel might be leaving the door open for a possible season 2.
Since the first season of Moon Knight ended, there has been speculation about whether the MCU series would get a season 2, and now it seems as though Marvel might be considering it. Though there has been no official confirmation of Moon Knight’s return, some recent information about the first season’s re-release would indicate that a season 2 of the show is more likely, potentially tying in to Disney CEO Bob Iger’s statements about slowing the rate of new MCU releases down.
A recent press release from Disney about the upcoming physical release of some Disney+ shows refers to Moon Knight as “Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight: The Complete First Season.” Were Moon Knight not continuing, Disney would more likely have labeled it “the complete series.” While not confirming a Moon Knight season 2, this would at least make it seem as though a second season is possible. This seems even more likely, since Obi-Wan Kenobi, a limited series also getting a physical release, does not have the season 1 label.
Will Moon Knight Season 2 Ever Happen?
Where Oscar Isaac’s MCU Hero Could Appear If Not Moon Knight Season 2
As of now, there is no official word on Moon Knight season 2, and what information does exist seems like it could go either way. Moon Knight series director Mohamed Diab mentioned that Marvel doesn’t necessarily give a show a second season, even if it’s successful. Diab’s full comments can be read below:Marvel had determined it from the first day. Marvel’s series projects are all six episodes except for special projects like WandaVision. The usual format is six episodes. Loki is the only series they said will be in two parts from the first day. Marvel’s way is not the usual way where if the project succeeds, I say let’s renew it for a second season. It’s their plan, successful or not, they have a plan.
Though Diab made it clear that Marvel had made no promises for a season 2, Kevin Feige has given audiences hope that Moon Knight will return.
Feige confirmed in the past that he is planning a return for Moon Knight, though he didn’t specify if this meant in his standalone show or other MCU projects. With the MCU teasing heroes like Blade and Black Knight, it is possible Moon Knight could appear in a possible Midnight Sons crossover based on Marvel’s supernatural superhero team. Even if Moon Knight doesn’t get a season 2, it is at least nice to know Oscar Isaac will be returning to the MCU at some point.
