Meghan Markle has a 'good excuse' to refuse UK reunion with Kate Middleton, Prince William: expert

Back in May, Meghan Markle surprised many when she made an unexpected return to the United Kingdom. Granted, Markle wasn’t back in the country for very long — but few were aware as to what the Duchess of Sussex was doing back in the UK.

Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, remain members of the British royal family, but they controversially stepped down as working royals and moved to the United States in 2020. Before touching down at London Heathrow Airport in May, Markle had not been in the UK for nearly two years — and new details have been revealed about her brief stay earlier this year.

The nature of Markle’s surprise visit

According to the Express, Markle stopped over in London on May 9 to catch a connecting flight to Nigeria. She spent “nearly three hours” in a VIP suite at Heathrow before joining Harry on that Nigeria flight.

“Meghan flew in from Los Angeles to meet Harry at Heathrow in May which ended her absence from the UK,” an insider revealed to the Express.

Markle allegedly “chatted with staff” while waiting for her flight with Harry, and it was her first time on UK soil since September 2022. Harry had previously insisted that Meghan will not return to the country, amid her general unpopularity and ongoing security concerns around the royal family.

However, Meghan’s surprise airport appearance has led to renewed speculation that she can’t stay away from London — and it’s anyone’s guess as to when, or if, she will come back to the UK, with or without Harry and their children.
