Meghan Markle’s Friend Had to Keep Her From Fangirling Over Victoria Beckham

Who wouldn’t lose it over meeting Posh Spice?

Meghan Markle almost fangirled a little too close to the sun when she met one of her favorite celebrities, Victoria Beckham. According to her friend, television presenter Lizzie Cundy, during her Suits days, the now-duchess had a chance to meet one of her idols and was so excited that she nearly embarrassed her pal.

According to the Mirror, Markle and Cundy met at a charity event hosted by John Caudwell and became close when Markle was in the U.K. doing press for Suits. While she was across the pond, she attended various events with Caudwell and at one in particular, she was “squealing” at the chance to meet Beckham.

“She was so thrilled to be in the room with Victoria Beckham. This was the night I actually had to tell her to stop squealing when she did see Victoria, it wasn’t too cool and she was very overexcited,” Caudy, who has a new show, Red Carpet Uncut, explained. “This was the time before she met her Harry, she was still in Suits, I’d never heard about it. This interview, she asked me to interview her!”

Cundy did interview Meghan, as well as other celebrities that were in attendance, but admitted that Markle’s segment almost didn’t make the final cut.

“‘We’ve got huge stars, Eva Longoria and Victoria Beckham, we haven’t got time for this.’ I said, ‘No we have to, I promised her,'” Cundy said of what she told her producer at the time. “Who knew, it’s mad, she was very excited, she was very excited to be in the room with Victoria Beckham.”

Victoria Beckham and David Beckham arrives for the wedding ceremony of Britain's Prince Harry and US actress Meghan Markle

Of course, Prince Harry and David Beckham, Victoria’s husband, had a friendship and the two were so close that the Beckhams attended Markle and Harry’s wedding in 2018.

Though they haven’t been in the same circles for a bit, there was a rumor that the Sussexes suspected the Beckhams of leaking stories to the press after they moved to the States. The Beckhams denied the claim, telling The Mirror, “David and Victoria went to Meghan and Harry’s wedding and were very supportive when Meghan arrived in the U.K.”
