Meghan Markle Should Send Kate Middleton Some Jam

Amid a year of turmoil for the royal family, Meghan Markle is reportedly looking to make amends with Kate Middleton. Despite the fact that their relationship has always been somewhat chilly — as documented by Prince Harry in Spare — Markle is apparently trying to warm it up.

“She wants to make peace with Kate. She doesn’t want any bad blood between them,” a source told In Touch about Markle’s desire to mend their relationship. The bad blood in question stems from the fact that the two women have never really gotten along, even though Middleton was a big Suits fan. As Harry wrote in Spare, the two couples once ” shouted” at one another during a meeting meant to clear the air. Among other things, Middleton was upset that Markle had said she was dealing with “baby brain” after Middleton mixed up some details about Harry and Meghan’s wedding rehearsal and flower-girl dresses (Middleton had given birth to Prince Louis about a month before the wedding).

“Meghan’s friends say she regrets how things went down and she never meant any harm to Kate,” the In Touch source continued, before editorializing a bit: “Though she must realize she could’ve done things differently.” Ouch!

According to the tabloid, since Middleton announced her cancer diagnosis earlier this year, Markle has been “going out of her way to show concern for Kate in this difficult time.” This includes sending the Princess of Wales “advice on wellness and diet,” per the tab’s source. Middleton, for her part, is reportedly being “polite” to her sister-in-law. “She hasn’t exactly encouraged or embraced Meghan,” the source told the tabloid.

Markle is missing the obvious play here. She does not need to send Middleton whatever SoCal wellness tips she’s getting from her influencer friends. She needs to be sending that woman some jam. Earlier this year, Markle sent 50 jars of jam to her closest friends to preview her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard. She should return to her beautiful kitchen and start boiling fruit for Middleton. Make jar No. 51. If it’s as good as Mindy Kaling and Oprah said it was, she should at least get a warm thank-you text.
