Meghan Markle had nothing but kind words to say about Kate Middleton during a rare interview with Prince Harry.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their engagement seven years ago in an official statement from Clarence House. The couple then sat down for an interview and photo session at Kensington Palace, the former residence of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.
When asked about her first interaction with Kate Middleton, Meghan gave a surprising response. Giving just three simple words, the former Suits star admitted, “She’s been wonderful.”
Harry also spoke about his father King Charles, saying they had “a handful of teas and meetings and all sorts of gatherings over at his place” to get acquainted with the family. He added, “The family together have been absolutely, you know, a solid support, and my grandparents as well have been wonderful throughout this whole process, and they’ve known for quite some time.”

Meghan chimed in, saying, “They’ve been amazing.” In their Netflix docuseries, titled Harry & Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex later described the engagement interview as “rehearsed,” likening it to an “orchestrated reality show.” She claimed she was told to “show the ring” and said, “We weren’t allowed to tell our story.”
Mishal Husain, who conducted the interview, responded to Meghan’s comments in Saga magazine, saying, “When the Duchess of Sussex said that my engagement interview with her and Harry was an ‘orchestrated reality show’ I didn’t know what to make of it.”
She added, “They seemed to have thought through what their new lives would be like and what marriage would mean for her life in particular. There was nothing that pointed to what would happen. It was two people who were full of joy in each other and life.”
Just five months after the interview, Meghan and Harry got married on May 19, 2018, with many royals and celebrity friends present. Two years after their wedding, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked fans as they announced their decision to step down from the royal family.
