The Duchess of Sussex, 42, wore a sentimental necklace that belonged to Prince Harry’s mother at a reception for military families in Abuja on May 11.

The necklace, featuring a delicate diamond cross on a gold chain, is thought to be a recent gift from Harry to his wife and once belonged to Princess Diana.

James Harris, the Regional Sales Manager at Austen & Blake, spoke exclusively to GB News about the sentimental meaning behind the necklace.

He said: “Meghan Markle’s three-day trip to Nigeria with Prince Harry saw her wearing sentimental jewellery that didn’t go unnoticed.

“One such stunning piece was a delicate cross-pendant adorned with sparkling diamonds paired with a gold chain.

“The cross pendant, while beautiful in its craftsmanship, could have carried a deeper significance.

“Traditionally, a cross pendant symbolises faith, hope, and protection.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle received lots of praise during their Nigeria tour

“For many, it represents a connection to one’s spiritual beliefs and a reminder of resilience and strength in times of adversity.

“In Meghan’s case, the cross might also be seen as a symbol of unity and peace, reflecting her commitment to humanitarian efforts and her dedication to fostering understanding across cultures.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as working royals in 2020, and have since settled in the US with their two children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.

The “symbol of unity and peace” could have been seen as a subtle message from Meghan to the Royal Family, whom she has had a limited relationship with in recent years.
