The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are still ‘very much in love’ and ‘very happy’ despite their ongoing feud with the royal family, claims one of Meghan’s former Suits co-stars.
As tension between Prince Harry and the royal family continues to simmer, one source of comfort the Duke of Sussex can undoubtedly rely on, is the support of his doting wife Meghan Markle. The couple, delighted fans last month when they visited Nigeria as part of an unofficial royal tour – with the couple candidly described as ‘very much in love’ by one of Meghan’s former Suits co-stars.
Speaking at this year’s Tony Awards on Sunday evening, Wendell Pierce, 60 told PEOPLE that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were “very much in love” when he met up with the pair last year, even as the Prince’s relationship remained strained with his other relatives.
“When [Meghan] came into town, she got an award last year, had a chance to say hello and wish she and Prince Harry well and wish the children well,” Pierce told the publication. “They look very much in love and were very happy, so that’s the most important thing.”
Wendell and Meghan previously shared a close bond after starring together on legal drama Suits until 2019, with Wendell playing the on-screen father of Meghan’s character Rachel Zane. Describing working alongside her as “a blast”, he also revealed that since the show’s conclusion he has kept in touch with the 42 year old Duchess and met up with her a few times.
“I’ve gotten to see her just a few times since, and we’ve been able to reminisce and so it’s real, we have fond memories of working together,” the Tony Award winner shared.
During the same interview, Wendell also revealed that he had been “surprised’ by the show’s resurgence in popularity last year, as a whole new generation of fans tuned into to watch the show from start to finish when it was added to streaming service Netflix.
Following the boost in popularity, it was revealed earlier this year that a spinoff series would see fans return to the Suits universe, in Suits LA, led by Arrow actor Stephen Amell. There was even talk previously of whether or not the Duchess herself would be willing to return to the show and reprise her iconic role as Rachel Zane for a second time.
Meghan also previously added further fuel to the fire about a possible return to the show, as she previously told Oprah Winfrey that she would “never say never” to a return – something which was later also teased by former on-screen love interest Patrick Adams at this year’s Golden Globes.
