MCU Insider Scoop: Captain Carter’s Future Adventures Unveiled!

A new report reveals that Marvel Studios has plans for Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter beyond the upcoming third season of What If…?

Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter as seen in the MCU

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans haven’t seen the last of Captain Peggy Carter and her many variants.

According to trusted insider Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus, Captain Carter will “be back in What If…? Season 3, and will also be one of the characters in play for [Avengers:Secret Wars.” With Secret Wars expected to pull characters from across the MCU Multiverse for one epic battle, it makes sense that Marvel Studios would want the movie to feature Captain Carter, who has become one of the franchise’s more popular variants. For the unfamiliar, Captain Carter is a variant of Peggy Carter who took the super soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers

Captain Carter in What If

Hayley Atwell reprises her role from previous MCU projects as Captain Carter, who has appeared in multiple episodes of the Disney+ animated series What If…? across its first two seasons. Atwell also portrayed a different Captain Carter variant, who hailed from Earth-838 and was a member of the Illuminati, in the live-action movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). However, fans shouldn’t expect this version of Captain Carter to be the one that might appear in Secret Wars, since Multiverse of Madness featured the character’s gruesome death at the hands of the Scarlet Witch.

Tom Hardy’s Venom Might Appear in Avengers: Secret Wars

Another multiverse character that will reportedly be part of Avengers: Secret Wars is Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock/Venom. Trusted insider Daniel Richtman recently reported that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is open to having Hardy return as Venom in the forthcoming crossover movie, which is rumored to bring back non-MCU superheroes like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. Hardy previously made a post-credits scene cameo as Eddie Brock in the MCU movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), although the scene did not include him interacting with any other superheroes.

The MCU Is Slowly Building Towards Secret Wars

Avengers: Secret Wars was announced at 2022’s San Diego Comic-Con and is expected to serve as a direct sequel to the untitled Avengers 5. While plot details remain nonexistent, Marvel Studios has been teasing the forthcoming crossover event, specifically in Multiverse of Madness, which name-dropped “incursion,” a term pulled from the 2015 Secret Wars comic book event that is used to describe two worlds that are about to collide. No Way Home and The Marvels, as well as the Disney+ series Loki, have also tackled the MCU Multiverse, with the forthcoming movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, reportedly set to lay even more groundwork for Secret Wars.

Fans can check out Captain Carter in What If…? and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which are both available to stream on Disney+.
