After being rumored to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in their own project, a Marvel Studios executive finally confirms Nova’s live-action debut.

The iconic superhero, Nova, is finally getting ready to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as a Marvel Studios executive confirms plans to bring them into live-action. One of the heroes that many have been waiting to see appear in the MCU is Nova, following the debut of the Nova Corps during the earlier phases. As the MCU continues to expand with new heroes and villains, Nova continues to be one character that the fans hope to see be part of a future slate.

In a new interview with ComicBook.com, Marvel Studios’ Head of Television, Streaming, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum confirmed the long-time rumor that Richard Rider, a.k.a. Nova, is indeed being eyed for the MCU. Stressing that they are in “really early development” on a project for the character, Winderbaum confirmed that they are hopeful to see Rider lead either his own upcoming MCU TV show or movie. Check out what Winderbaum said below:

We love Nova. We are in really early development on Nova. We have a new system behind-the-scenes at Marvel Studios. We’re more like a traditional studio now. We’re developing more than we actually will produce. There are plans to develop Nova. I love Nova, too. I love Rich Rider, too. I hope it gets to the screen. The world is always chaos. There’s always things. You gotta conjure these things to make them happen, but I would love to see a Nova show one day.

Nova’s Development History Explained & Where He Can Fit Into The MCU

Nova in space in Marvel Comics

Nova’s MCU development road has been a long one, as Marvel Studios has previously been asked numerous times about whether Richard is joining the franchise. In April 2018, Kevin Feige teased Nova potentially appearing in Phase 4, stating, “Nova is… if we have a big board with a bunch of characters that have more immediate potential, Nova is on that board.” Feige shared in January 2021, when asked if Richard or even Sam Alexander could be Nova in the MCU, he said, “Well, yes and yes,” leaving it vague who would actually be carrying that hero’s legacy in the franchise.

It appeared initially that a Nova TV show or movie was actually moving forward in March 2022 when it was announced that Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada was developing a project based on the cosmic hero. However, it’s unclear if that iteration of Nova’s MCU project is the same one that Winderbaum is talking about being in the works at the moment. It wouldn’t be shocking if there was a different creative team in place trying to develop a film or Disney+ show.

As far as where Nova‘s movie or TV show could fit into the MCU, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if the studio were actually saving him for some time after The Multiverse Saga. With all the changes that have been going on behind the scenes at Marvel Studios, including the firing of Jonathan Majors as Kang, the MCU may be better off saving Nova’s proper debut for Phase 7. But for now, time will tell if Nova will finally headline his own MCU series or film in the coming years.
