“Maybe she has been this whole time”: Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool Can’t Live With This Trauma But Morena Baccarin Turning into Copycat is What the Fans Desperately Want
Fans speculate that Copycat might debut in the MCU soon, with Morena Baccarin hinting at her return in future projects.
Since Deadpool & Wolverine hit the screens, Ryan Reynolds’ hero has blown up worldwide. The first movie got fans really excited, but now with the third one, it’s possible to start seeing where his future in the MCU might be headed. However, there’s a certain someone in his story who’s already made an appearance and could be a big hint about what’s to come.

Morena Baccarin’s character, Deadpool’s girlfriend, has been a major part of his story and appeared in the latest sequel. But the comics might have given us a clue about her potential future if things go that way. So, what does the future hold for her?
Deadpool Might’ve Already Introduced Copycat

For dedicated MCU fans, Copycat might have been around for a while in the superhero universe. Marvel often takes its time to officially introduce characters, so it’s possible that Copycat has been part of the story longer than we realized.
According to the comics, she is actually Vanessa Carlysle, Wade’s girlfriend, known as Deadpool. Morena Baccarin portrayed her in the first film in 2016 and returned for the second film in 2018. Although it appeared that there would be more development of her character, the outcome did not align with those expectations.
As of now, the character hasn’t been officially declared as Copycat, but for many fans, it’s just a matter of time before it happens:
At FAN EXPO Canada, the actress shared her belief that Carlysle’s story isn’t over yet, even after the third film. Baccarin expressed her eagerness to return for future MCU projects and mentioned her interest in playing a version of her character as the mutant Copycat. (via Comic Book Movie)
It’s also worth noting that Deadpool 2 showed the character’s death, but a post-credits scene hinted that it might not be permanent.
In an interview with Syfy, the actress revealed that the original plan was to kill off her character. However, after test audiences reacted negatively, director David Leitch decided to do a last-minute reshoot. This is how Deadpool ends up going back in time to save his romantic partner before she meets her end.
Also, according to an interview with CBR, co-writer Rhett Rheese mentioned that Copycat was already on their radar for the screen, but it just wasn’t the right time back then. And now, with her recent appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, fans might finally get to see Copycat on screen for the first time.
Everything seems to be pointing in that direction.
Who’s The Mutant Copycat In The MCU?

The MCU frequently adapts comic book stories, though it sometimes modifies details for its films. However, with Copycat, it seems like the path is clear and almost ready for her introduction in the near future.
In the comics, Vanessa Carlysle is a mutant with the power to shapeshift, originally appearing with blue skin, white hair, and pointed ears. At one point, she met Wade Wilson — Deadpool — a mercenary with whom she eventually fell in love.
Their relationship falls apart when Wilson discovers he has incurable cancerous tumors and decides to protect Vanessa from witnessing his suffering. After their split, she uses her mutant abilities for espionage and infiltration, eventually becoming a mercenary herself.
As Copycat, Carlysle adopts a new operational alter ego and becomes a formidable foe, taking on Domino, X-Force, and particularly her ex-boyfriend Deadpool — as it seems there’s still some lingering resentment from their past relationship.
Deadpool & Wolverine is currently running in theaters.
