Marvel Fans May Not Like What Christian Bale Had to Say When Asked About Robert Downey Jr’s Ironman and Chris Evans’ Captain America

Christian Bale could care less about the internal rumblings among gods and heroes of the MCU.

The legacy of Marvel is embedded in the arc of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans as Iron Man and Captain America respectively and no one cares less about their impact than Christian Bale. The actor who once portrayed an iconic DC character himself – came out the other end branded as a legend who never knew where to start when it came to Marvel.

However, with time, even that line blurred a little when Bale was cast to play Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder – a role that was rightfully inducted while the rest of the movie got butchered critically. As an official entrant into the Marvel universe, it is time to throw Bale under the microscope and study the indifference with which he handled an era of CBM icons that had such a hold over the entire world for 11 straight years.

Christian Bale Has One Opinion to Offer on MCU Legends

The era of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans in Marvel may be over but it is foolish and ignorant to deny the impact that their presence has had on the world – both within and outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Christian Bale did not get the memo when the rest of the world got theirs. As such, the Batman star did not care much for his Marvel contemporaries, Iron Man and Captain America.

In a December 2015 interview with Collider, Bale (while playing a game of Save or Kill) answered several questions that poised one iconic character, TV series, movie, music band, or video game against another and had him pick which to save, thus relegating the other to death. The selections varied from Han Solo vs. Indiana Jones, Harry Potter vs. Lord of the Rings, Zelda vs. Mario, Game of Thrones vs. Breaking Bad, to The Beatles vs. Rolling Stones.

Some of the choices had him riled up while others displayed his taste for the classics. But it was the choice between Iron Man and Captain America that seemed to get the most nonchalant response of all. When asked which character he would save, Christian Bale was quick to reply, “Donʼt really care!”

In a time when Captain America: Civil War was all the rage and the entire world was divided between choosing one side over the other as Iron Man and Captain America faced off against each other, Bale couldnʼt have been more indifferent toward the fate of his Marvel counterparts.

Despite Christian Bale showing no interest in rescuing either Chris Evans or Robert Downey Jr.ʼs arcs as Captain America and Iron Man respectively, the universe did not stand on the same principles in the aftermath of the events of Captain America: Civil War.

As the shattered and once again orphaned face of Tony Stark helplessly stared into a recording that played out the death of his parents at the hands of the Winter Soldier, the audience could do nothing but bear the impact of what was about to unfold onscreen. Captain America: Civil War not only divided the Avengers but also cleaved the reality into two as fans justified one heroʼs action against the other.

However, all of this least affected Christian Bale whose only purpose at the time was promoting his star-studded film, The Big Short, and passing on the legacy of Star Wars to his daughter. Years later, the Dark Knight actor would find his way into the MCU but even his most devoted and terrifying performance as Gorr the God Butcher could do nothing to save Thor from the jaws of Marvel Hell.
