The official trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine has been released, offering plenty of reveals about the film’s highly anticipated story. As the sole Marvel movie releasing in 2024 – at least where Marvel Studios is concerned – Deadpool & Wolverine is generating a lot of excitement. The film’s teaser trailer confirmed it as a bridge between 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movies and Marvel Studios’ MCU, centered around Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool teaming up with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
While the Deadpool & Wolverine teaser trailer featured several reveals in its own right, the official trailer takes the marketing up to another level. More about the upcoming MCU movie has been revealed, from connections to both aforementioned franchises to more information on the new variant of Wolverine. With Deadpool & Wolverine‘s release date currently set for July 26, 2024, the official trailer provides enough major story reveals to keep Marvel fans satisfied until the film hits theaters.
10. Wolverine Isn’t Respected In His Universe
Deadpool & Wolverine’s Logan variant lacks respect from those around him.
Despite his titular role, Jackman’s Wolverine was largely absent from Deadpool & Wolverine‘s teaser trailer. However, the official trailer provides a much greater insight into Wolverine’s story in the film, even opening with the character drinking at a bar in his universe. Wolverine is no stranger to such scenarios, often shown doing the same in various Fox X-Men movies. That said, one key difference is that he is not respected by those around him.
As he is sitting at the bar, the bartender can be heard telling him to leave. He states that Wolverine is not welcome in the bar or anywhere, for that matter, which makes it sound more like a personal issue than something trivial like Logan being too drunk. Wolverine then uncharacteristically pleas for one last drink in exchange for his absence, hinting at a much deeper lack of respect between Wolverine and the people of his univers
9. Deadpool & Wolverine Fight In The Void From Loki (& Wolverine Wears His Classic Suit)
Loki’s Void location plays an integral part in Deadpool & Wolverine.
After Wolverine’s introduction in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, the other titular character arrives to recruit him. Wolverine shows a hesitancy to join Wade, before the official trailer cuts to the two squaring off in a familiar MCU location. Wolverine and Deadpool begin fighting in the Void, the pit of pruned elements, locations, and people shown in Loki seasons 1 and 2.
As was evident by the teaser trailer and the set photos released from Deadpool & Wolverine, this proves that the Void will play an integral role in the film’s plot. That said, it is not clear how much time passes between the two scenes, as the Void confrontation shows Wolverine’s new, albeit classic, suit in all its glory. The yellow and blue of Wolverine’s costume is shown in action in Deadpool & Wolverine‘s trailer as the two mutants battle in a variety of violent ways.
8. Deadpool Needs Wolverine’s Help To Save His Universe
More about Deadpool & Wolverine’s core plot is revealed in the official trailer.
The teaser trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine was light on story content aside from Wade’s induction into the TVA. The official trailer for the film rectifies this, providing some big reveals about the driving force of the story. As mentioned by Wade after his and Wolverine’s fight in the trailer, the former needs the latter’s help to save his universe. While it is unclear how Wade’s universe is in danger, he seeks out Wolverine for aid as he is aware of the heroic qualities of Wolverine from the X-Men franchise.
This story certainly tracks with the other installments in the Deadpool franchise. While it has been presented in a meta way, it is clear that Deadpool is aware of Logan’s heroics. As such, it would make sense for the character to seek out a variant of Wolverine to help him save a universe, as the character is used to doing it across the multiverse.
Deadpool & Wolverine will be the duo’s first team-up since 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
7. Wolverine’s Let Down His Own Universe In Some Way
Deadpool finds out Wolverine’s universe did not meet a happy end.
After asking for Logan’s help in Deadpool & Wolverine‘s official trailer, Wade finds out exactly why his ally is not respected in his own realm. Wolverine says that Deadpool’s plight to save his universe is not his problem, with Deadpool replying “Is that what you said when your world went to s***?” This is followed by a scene of Wolverine in his own universe, kneeling in distress while Matthew Macfadyen’s character explains that Wolverine let down his world.
This explains why Wolverine was shown drinking, without the respect of others, at the beginning of the trailer. As the trailer makes clear, something went wrong in Wolverine’s universe that he feels responsible for. In this way, Deadpool & Wolverine will follow the formula of Deadpool and Deadpool 2. Both films feature Wade, along with other characters, at low points in their lives before working through them together. This seems to be the case with the two in Deadpool & Wolverine, driven by the incident in the latter’s universe.
6. Cassandra Nova Is Revealed As Deadpool & Wolverine’s Villain
A major Deadpool & Wolverine villain theory is finally confirmed.
Since the release of the film’s teaser trailer, it has been theorized that Cassandra Nova will be the villain of Deadpool & Wolverine. The official trailer finally confirms that this is the case by offering a first proper look at Emma Corrin as the character. The villain can be seen using her telekinetic powers to defeat Wolverine which, when combined with her British accent and physical appearance, all but confirms Corrin as Cassandra Nova, Charles Xavier’s evil twin.
In the comics, Cassandra Nova was created as a Mummudrai clone. The Mummudrai are evil, parasitic beings who copy a host body, taking the host’s abilities only with the malevolent drive of the Mummudrai as their guiding light. Cassandra Nova is one such being, an evil clone of Charles Xavier. Utilizing this character as the villain of Deadpool & Wolverine certainly makes sense, especially if the character is explained as a multiversal being who was pruned to the Void.
Cassandra Nova was theorized to be part of X-Men ’97 season 1, though Deadpool & Wolverine will mark the character’s MCU debut.
5. Loki’s Alioth Will Appear In Deadpool & Wolverine
The Void’s villainous guardian Alioth will appear after being introduced in Loki season 1.
Another prominent theory after the release of Deadpool & Wolverine‘s trailer was that Alioth – the time monster from Loki – would feature in the film. Like Cassandra Nova’s appearance, Deadpool & Wolverine‘s official trailer confirmed this theory. In the trailer, Alioth can be seen flying over the Void as he was shown in Loki season 1. With the trailer also confirming that much of the film will take place in the Void, it seems Alioth will be a primary obstacle for the titular mutant duo to overcome in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Alioth was not particularly a feature of Loki season 2, though was still shown to be active in the Void in the show’s final episode. Despite the death of He Who Remains, Alioth was shown when Ravonna Renslayer was transported to the Void in Loki season 2, episode 6. As such, Deadpool & Wolverine‘s inclusion of the being makes sense regardless of where the film is placed in the MCU’s timeline.
Alioth’s inclusion in Deadpool & Wolverine makes sense, given the film will deal with other Loki elements like the TVA.
4. Dogpool Is Officially Revealed In Deadpool & Wolverine’s Trailer
A Deadpool variant long-rumored for the MCU appears in Deadpool & Wolverine.
In Marvel Comics, there is a variant of Deadpool called Dogpool. As evident by his name, Dogpool is a member of the Deadpool Corps who resembles a dog. The Deadpool Corps has been rumored to appear in Deadpool & Wolverine for a while, from Lady Deadpool to Kid Deadpool. Another theorized inclusion was Dogpool, who is finally revealed in Deadpool & Wolverine‘s trailer.
While it is unclear how big a role Dogpool will play, his appearance in the trailer promises that Deadpool & Wolverine will continue the whacky tone of its predecessors. In the trailer, Dogpool can be seen licking Wade’s face as an explosion booms behind them. Wolverine can also be seen in the shot, hilariously looking at the two in disgust.
3. An MCU Sorcerer Will Appear In Deadpool & Wolverine
A sorcerer from the MCU is teased as part of Deadpool & Wolverine’s Void battle.
In the final shot of the trailer, Deadpool and Wolverine can be seen jumping out of a window in the Void. When the camera turns, it is revealed that the duo is jumping through a magical portal. This means that a sorcerer from the MCU will be present in the film, likely having been pruned by the TVA to explain their appearance in the Void.
Another possible source of this portal is a major MCU cameo. This portal could hint that either Wong or Doctor Strange will appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, which would make sense given both are aware of the concept of the multiverse. However, despite this possibility, it is more likely that Deadpool & Wolverine simply features an unnamed sorcerer to tie to the mainline Marvel Cinematic Universe.
2. X-Men’s Lady Deathstrike And Azazel Return In Deadpool & Wolverine
Two members of the X-Men’s Brotherhood of Mutants will appear in the MCU.
With Deadpool & Wolverine serving to connect the MCU with Fox’s X-Men franchise, two characters from the latter can be seen in the trailer. These characters are shown in a shot toward the end of the trailer, standing in front of Cassandra Nova’s base. On the left is Lady Deathstrike, the bodyguard of William Stryker from X2: X-Men United. In the film, Deathstrike was played by Kelly Hu, with Deadpool & Wolverine seemingly bringing back the actress in the role.
On the other side of the shot, another character from the X-Men films is seen: Azazel. Azazel appeared in X-Men: First Class as a member of the Hellfire Club, serving Sebastian Shaw. At the end of the film, Azazel joined Magneto and the Brotherhood of Mutants. Like Lady Deathstrike, Azazel seems to be played by the same actor in Deadpool & Wolverine, Jason Flemyng. The two characters join the returning Aaron Stanford as Pyro, first spotted in the teaser trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, who appeared in two other Fox X-Men movies.
1. Ant-Man’s Skull Forms Cassandra Nova’s Base In The Void
A pruned Avenger, Ant-Man, serves as the villain’s headquarters in Deadpool & Wolverine.
The final major reveal of the Deadpool & Wolverine official trailer features the return of an Avenger. In the trailer’s final moments, Cassandra Nova is shown leaving her base of operations in the Void. Interestingly, this base is built into the skull of Scott Lang/Ant-Man. The clearly visible helmet of Ant-Man can be seen in the Void before it opens, revealing the skull beneath, the mouth of which Cassandra Nova exits.
This reveal proves a few things about Deadpool & Wolverine. For one, it confirms that the TVA has pruned a version of Ant-Man across the vast Marvel multiverse. Another thing it proves is that Deadpool & Wolverine will include several MCU Easter eggs throughout the film that tie to some of the franchise’s biggest characters. Finally, it proves that Cassandra Nova is truly evil, with Deadpool & Wolverine‘s official trailer showing her operating out of the decomposed skull of an MCU Avenger.
