Kevin Feige’s One Condition For Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool & Wolverine Return

Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy reveals Kevin Feige’s number one requirement for Hugh Jackman’s return as the iconic X-Men hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The biggest installment in The Multiverse Saga is weeks away from finally happening this summer, as Deadpool & Wolverine will finally bring Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson into the MCU timeline. However, as big as his MCU entry is going to be, Deadpool & Wolverine is also garnering a lot of hype in light of Jackman coming back as Wolverine after his initial retirement from the role in 2017.

To promote the upcoming release of Deadpool & Wolverine, an event in Shanghai, China (via Comic Book) took place recently featuring Jackman, Reynolds, and Levy, with the director opening up on the former X-Men star returning as Logan for the Phase 5 installment. According to Levy, Feige was onboard to get Jackman back as Wolverine, but on one specific condition, revealing the following:

He said, ‘Yes, but he wears the yellow. Can he finally wear the yellow?’ And we began.

Why Kevin Feige’s Hugh Jackman Return Condition Was A Perfect Idea

While many Marvel heroes have gotten the chance to come to life in live-action, Jackman as Wolverine remains one of the most beloved portrayals in the entire superhero genre. However, throughout his time playing Logan, none of his X-Men and Wolverine movies saw him ever don his iconic yellow costume. The closest fans got was in a deleted scene for The Wolverine where Logan gets the classic suit in a briefcase, which didn’t lead anywhere in his later appearances.

That is perhaps why Feige’s demand for Jackman to be part of the Deadpool & Wolverine cast was really the only wish that he had to express for his return. Seeing Jackman donning the famous superhero uniform is the only missing piece in his Wolverine legacy. Given that the MCU is also more faithful to the source material whe compared to 20th Century Fox’s X-Men films, it makes a lot more sense to incorporate the yellow outfit in Deadpool & Wolverine. The only remaining part that fans have yet to see, at least in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailers, is Jackman with the mask.

Luckily, that concern is seemingly one that fans won’t need to have, as plenty of Deadpool & Wolverine merchandise marketing has made it seemingly clear that Jackman will have his cowl. It’s likely that Marvel Studios wanted to avoid featuring it in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailers so that fans could get that experience for the first time in theaters. With less than two weeks left to go, it won’t be long until the MCU audience finally gets to see Deadpool & Wolverine and all the surprises that the film has in store.
