Deadpool & Wolverine will be making references to 2017’s Logan, according to Kevin Feige.
A recent interview from Kevin Feige revealed Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine will have references to 2017’s Logan. Previously, the actor promised fans that there would be no messing up of timelines and that Wolverine would stay dead in that period.
Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine
The announcement seemed to have stirred up the crowd. For the past few months, fans have been reassured that Logan stays canon, and the reason why he’s alive in Deadpool 3 is because of the power of timelines. Even Hugh Jackman vowed never to screw up his famed character’s story.
Ryan Reynolds And Company Pledged Not To Ruin Logan’s Legacy
Ryan Reynolds clarified in a Twitter video that Deadpool & Wolverine will not be involving Logan in the upcoming movie. The actor said: “Logan takes place in 2029, totally separate thing. Logan died in Logan. Not touching that.”
Director Shawn Levy echoed the same sentiment in his interview over BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, saying:
“Logan is canon. We love Logan. That happened. I want the world to know, as the producer and director, all of us share a deep love and respect for Logan, every aspect of how it’s crafted, and all the events that take place.”
Similarly, Hugh Jackman explained how Wolverine is alive and kicking in Deadpool 3. He spoke with SiriusXM and revealed the secret of how Marvel Studios brought his character back to the screen:
“All because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines, now, we can go back because it’s science. And so I don’t have to screw with the Logan timeline, which was important to me, and I think probably to the fans, too.”
Hugh Jackman in Logan (2017)
In an interview with Empire (via Readly), Marvel boss Kevin Feige teased that Deadpool & Wolverine will give a nudge to the Logan movie.
“Feige says there will be Logan references in Deadpool & Wolverine, but ‘very reverential’ ones, while any concerns Jackman had were quickly quashed. ‘I knew Ryan would fight as hard for Wolverine as I would fight for him,’ he says.”
Does it mean there’s a high chance that Marvel Studios would not live up to its promise of not touching Logan? Only time will tell, though many fans are getting bothered now with the possibility.
Kevin Feige Wasn’t Initially Planning On Making Deadpool 3

In another interview with Empire Magazine, Kevin Feige shared that he initially was not thinking about Deadpool’s introduction to the MCU yet. He was more focused on bringing the X-Men into the fold.
“The truth is, I wasn’t even sure how to incorporate Deadpool yet. I was very much thinking about how to bring mutants and the X-Men into [the MCU], and I thought it needed to be more than just playing the hits. But the truth is, Ryan is an idea machine. So he may have pitched that to me, but he also pitched 25 other thoughts and ideas.”
Many of these ideas were rejected, but finally, fans have Deadpool & Wolverine to anticipate this coming July 26, 2024.
