Tobey Maguire and Hugh Jackman can have a meaningful appearance in Avengers 6 just like the Resistance in Deadpool 3.

After years of waiting, fans might finally get to see a team-up of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Both these Marvel properties recently returned to the universe in two different films. While Maguire appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Jackman appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine. According to reports, fans might get to see them together in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Jackman and Maguire are two OG superhero actors who revived the genre with their films in the early 2000s. The two actors have their own legacies among the Marvel fandom, who dreamed about them working together ever since a Marvel Multiverse Saga became possible.

Marvel Might Bring Together Tobey Maguire and Hugh Jackman In Avengers: Secret Wars

Tobey Maguire‘s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home was a lucky charm for Marvel. The film grossed $1.92 billion at the box office and became the third Marvel film to enter the list of the top ten highest-grossing films of all time (via Box Office Mojo). Similarly, Hugh Jackman‘s appearance also yielded great results for MCU’s first R-rated film.

With a $1.26 billion gross at the global box office, Deadpool & Wolverine is the highest-grossing R-rated film (via Box Office Mojo). The addition of these two old-timers to the Marvel roster has definitely worked for the studio as it played with the audience’s nostalgia and brought them to the theaters. Ever since the two actors became part of the MCU, there were rumors about their team-up.

New reports suggest that while Kevin Feige might not make them central characters in Avengers: Secret Wars, he is probably going to give in to the fan fantasy and bring them together for the film. According to The Cosmic Circus, the two characters will only be brought back if it has something meaningful to contribute to the film.

It was also noted that Marvel would take a leaf out of Ryan Reynolds’ third Deadpool film on how to bring back fan-favorite characters in meaningful roles. The discussion on the topic at The Cosmis Circus went like this:

Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is probably going to be every Marvel fan’s fantasy going into Secret Wars and I know that they’re doing everything in their power to make this interaction and more legacy character interactions a reality, but it has to be something meaningful like it was when we saw the Resistance in Deadpool and Wolverine, not just some throwaway sequence that’s meant to be a one and done.

Earlier reports from Marvel scoopers, @MyTimeToShineH and @CanWeGetToast, even suggested that Jackman and Maguire will be headlining the upcoming Multiversal team-up project, Avengers: Secret Wars. The scoopers reported that both of their characters will lead TVA’s multiversal army, including Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, who will be the key player from Earth-616.

Hugh Jackman And Tobey Maguire Leading Secret Wars Makes No Sense For The MCU

Avengers: Secret Wars

Hugh Jackman and Tobey Maguire’s appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars would definitely be a welcoming move, but making them the leads is a questionable idea. The Earth’s mightiest heroes may face a significant defeat at the hands of the villain, Doctor Doom, in Avengers: Doomsday.

If they are the leads, it could be possible that Maguire’s Spider-Man and Jackman’s Wolverine will lead TVA’s two multiversal teams, helping Earth-616 in their war against Doom. While the idea excited many, it would be a disservice to the fans and current actors of the MCU to rely on the nostalgic heroes from the 2000s for the Multiverse Saga finale.

For one, both actors are well into their 50s and bid farewell to these characters in their prime. Their roles in the MCU were intended as a fun throwback. Other rumors of Holland’s Spider-Man leading the team may not be true as well.

It is highly unlikely that Marvel will place all their bets on Spider-Man to carry forward their multiversal storyline. Holland’s appearance in the MCU is based on a vulnerable deal with Sony, which was on the verge of falling apart multiple times.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars follows on May 7, 2027.
