With Deadpool & Wolverine poised to introduce the X-Men to the MCU in earnest, Kevin Feige has responded to a burning question about what’s in store for a future X-Men movie in the MCU. Deadpool & Wolverine is releasing on July 26 and will feature a litany of characters taken directly from Fox’s X-Men franchise. While trailers and set photos have confirmed that several actors from the late franchise will be reprising their roles, the upcoming movie is still supposedly teeming with closely guarded secrets.
It seems this secrecy extends beyond Deadpool & Wolverine, as when asked about the reported Marvel Studios X-Men movie by Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Feige refused to comment beyond stating: “July 26 is really when it all starts, when Deadpool & Wolverine comes out.”
Needless to say, this response fails to elaborate on common knowledge. Fans are well aware of the implications of Deadpool & Wolverine as the titular stars make the leap from Fox to the MCU. It remains to be seen whether this movie will be the last time that Deadpool and Wolverine appear in the MCU – though it is an unlikely prospect with the promise of a multiverse-merging Avengers: Secret Wars on the horizon. Regardless, Feige may have more to say soon.
Kevin Feige Might Have More To Say About Marvel’s X-Men Movie Later This Month
One of the biggest events of the year for comic book movies, San Diego Comic-Con, is taking place July 25-28. Marvel Studios is scheduled for a presentation at the event to discuss the MCU on July 27, the day after Deadpool & Wolverine releases. Exactly what the studio intends to delve into is not yet public knowledge, but its proximity to Deadpool & Wolverine‘s release date is hard to ignore.
After skipping out on 2023 due to the writer’s strike, Marvel Studios is reportedly returning to SDCC’s Hall H – the event’s biggest and most sought-after venue.
This panel is typically where some of the MCU’s biggest reveals are shared, such as the entire Phase 5 lineup at 2022’s SDCC. It therefore stands to reason that Marvel Studios may intend to share more info on the future of the X-Men at SDCC 2024, the day after their feature-length MCU debut. Whether this will comprise a full-scale announcement, however, remains to be seen – especially as the MCU may be looking to save face this year.
After all, 2022’s announcement of the MCU Phase 5 release schedule looks decidedly different now. Release dates for projects like Blade, Ironheart, and Daredevil: Born Again have been significantly pushed back, with 2023’s writer’s strike only partially to blame. With that in mind, the MCU may take a more measured approach when announcing its future movies this year. Nevertheless, in the absence of a concrete release date, further information on the MCU’s X-Men still looks very likely.
