Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige officially confirms that The Fantastic Four will start filming soon. After several updates about The Fantastic Four‘s production such as The Fantastic Four‘s main cast, the film’s 1960s setting, and Julia Garner’s casting as Silver Surfer, the Phase 5 movie is finally entering the filming stage ahead of its July 25, 2025 release date. Although 2024 only contained one MCU release, updates on upcoming MCU movies and shows such as The Fantastic FourCaptain America: Brave New WorldThunderbolts, and Blade are to be expected in the following months.

On April 11, 2024, during CinemaCon, producer Kevin Feige reveals that Matt Shakman’s The Fantastic Four has wrapped up pre-production, with the cast and crew getting ready to shoot the film in the following weeks. Feige also confirms that The Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts* are being shot for IMAX, though Feige still refuses to explain the addition of the asterisk to the Thunderbolts* title.

What The Fantastic Four Filming Start Means For The Marvel Movie

Casting For The Villain And Additional Roles Should Arrive Soon

Franklin Richards with Doctor Doom in Marvel Comics

With the cameras ready to roll for The Fantastic Four, it will be inevitable for Marvel Studios to release more updates on the movie’s plot and cast. The next character reveal after the Silver Surfer could be The Fantastic Four‘s mysterious main villain or villains. The most likely characters to fill this role are the team’s archnemesis Doctor Doom and the planet-eating Galactus, though often overlooked Fantastic Four enemies such as Annihilus and Impossible Man are not out of the question just yet. After the main villain’s confirmation, of course, will come their respective casting announcement.

Shalla-Bal’s involvement in the team’s MCU debut and The Fantastic Four‘s 1960s setting have begun to delineate the movie’s plot. Given the Fantastic Four’s retro-futuristic aesthetic and the absence of original Silver Surfer Norrin Radd, it’s possible that The Fantastic Four will take place in an alternate universe. Details revealed during The Fantastic Four‘s filming could confirm this theory, and perhaps add even new questions and mysteries to it. Possible announcements like Valeria and Franklin Richards’s introduction could also complement fan theories about the story.

Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* have provided clues about their respective plot and characters during filming. Months ago, an on-set image revealed that Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson will wear a new Captain America suit in Captain America: Brave New World. More recently, Yelena Belova actor Florence Pugh shared a Thunderbolts* behind-the-scenes video revealing her character’s new gear. Similarly, The Fantastic Four‘s filming updates could come with behind-the-scenes footage containing new info about the Phase 5 film.
