Since getting his breakout role in 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Keanu Reeves has gone from strength to strength, achieving widespread acclaim for his further roles in Point Break, Speed and The Devil’s Advocate, and for his starring roles in franchises such as The Matrix and John WickKeanu Reeves has become one of the most influential and popular actors of the modern era, which has made him a popular fan-cast for many superhero roles.

Throughout his lengthy and varied career, Keanu Reeves has proven he’s one of his generation’s most versatile performers, having taken roles in practically every genre, varying from action to romance, and from comedy to science fiction. This makes him a huge competitor for any number of roles in Marvel and DC’s live-action superhero franchise, though he has previously stated that being locked into long contracts would dissuade him from joining these franchises. However, his work in The Matrix and John Wick franchises may mark a change in his perspective, making a superhero role for Keanu Reeves more possible than ever.

Keanu Reeves already appeared as a dark DC hero, as he starred as John Constantine in 2005’s eponymous Constantine. Following James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios reshuffle, Constantine 2 was confirmed to be in development as a DC Elseworlds project, meaning Keanu Reeves will be returning as the exorcist and occult detective. Since Constantine is set outside the DCU, however, this wouldn’t stop Reeves from assuming a more high-profile role in the main DCU continuity, or indeed in the MCU, meaning only time will tell if Keanu Reeves actually takes on a superhero or supervillain role in the future.
