Being a part of the British Royal Family comes with a lot of perks and advantages, but it also comes with a lot of negative press and attention that not everyone can deal with. We’ve seen it directly affect the lives of several members of the family over the years.

In a documentary done by Channel 5, journalist Afua Hagan revealed that Princess Kate struggled to help her husband, Prince William, deal with the media. The press did “damage” to William and made it hard for him to simply live his life.

In order to make things a bit easier, Kate decided to make a move to alleviate some of the negative press by controlling the narrative, at least when it came to photos of William and the kids.

She also understands the interest in her family, especially her children, that people want to see them growing up. So she understands that the press needs these pictures. Kate did something which was unprecedented at the time. She decided that she was going to be the one to photograph her own children… She’s decided I will take them and I will deliver them to the press agencies. I’ll be the one that posts them on social media. – Afua Hagan

It’s unprecedented mainly because Kate is a Princess, which would entail her with other duties. But photography is a passion of hers and she has been using it to her advantage.

Although there was a big slip-up with the edited Mother’s Day image, Kate has done a great job as the main photographer to this point and will continue in her self-appointed role.
