The Princess of Wales has rarely been seen in public amid her ongoing cancer treatment, part of a challenging year for the British royal family that has seen King Charles III battle cancer as well amid escalating tensions with overseas members of the royal family.

Kate‘s continued preventive chemotherapy demands enough of her attention, and the mother of three has enjoyed light activities — including some royal responsibilities — throughout her cancer fight. But a new revelation from Meghan Markle could result in a fresh headache for Kate and for William.

Last weekend, Meghan and Prince Harry sat for an interview with CBS News to announce their new initiative, The Parents’ Network. The organization’s goal is to curb the impact of online bullying and provide support to parents whose children ended their lives after being cyberbullied.

During the interview, Meghan ominously said that she has hardly “scraped the surface” of her experiences with being bullied and with suicidal ideation, amid continued speculation and rumors about her treatment back in the United Kingdom.

The statement provoked some discord in the UK, with royal experts worried that future stateside revelations from Meghan could hit like an earthquake at both Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace. It could further implicate Kate, whom Meghan has previously labeled as a “cold and unwelcoming” person who made her cry prior to marrying Harry.

Only time will tell as to what Meghan will say next — if anything — and how Kate will respond. But for now, it is “as you were” among the royals, the tension becoming part of their daily life amid a tough year for many in the House of Windsor.
