Stranger Things breakout star Joseph Quinn comments on Chris Evans’ Human Torch and how he is taking on Johnny Storm in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four.

Stranger Things' Joseph Quinn and Chris Evans as the Human Torch in Fantastic Four

The Fantastic Four‘s Joseph Quinn talks about playing the Human Torch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, commenting on Chris Evans’ portrayal of Johnny Storm. Quinn was one of the biggest reasons why Stranger Things season 4 was an enormous success. The actor has since gone on to sign on to some impressive films, starring in A Quiet Place: Day OneGladiator 2, and Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four. The actor has now opened up on how a previous version of Johnny Storm spoke to him.

Speaking to Entertainment WeeklyJoseph Quinn said he has “big boots” to fill after Chris Evans played the Human Torch. Before becoming the MCU’s Captain America, Evans starred in two Fantastic Four movies in the 2000s. According to Quinn, he was a fan of what Evans did with the character. While the actor thinks it will be a challenge to play the role due to Evans’ excellent appearances as Johnny Storm, Quinn wants to make the Human Torch his own, shining alongside the rest of The Fantastic Four‘s cast. Check out the full quote below:

“I remember really enjoying Chris Evans’s performance as Johnny in the previous films, and it felt like this would be a really exciting opportunity; I was absolutely signed up. No. I mean, you’re going to make it your own. It’s big boots [to fill].”

How Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm Could Differ From Chris Evans’

The First Look At Quinn’s Character Has Been Revealed

Johnny Storm's Human Torch celebrating 4-4 day in MCU poster

Recently, Marvel Studios announced the cast for The Fantastic Four after several months of speculation. Quinn’s Johnny Storm/Human Torch will be joined by Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm/The Thing. To celebrate the movie’s casting announcement, Marvel released official art featuring the actors in character. The studio has since followed up on that with a Human Torch The Fantastic Four poster.

The first look at Quinn’s character in his superhero and regular forms reveals a key difference between the MCU’s version of Johnny Storm and Evans’. Both characters have very different suits. Evans’ Human Torch wore a more traditional Fantastic Four team uniform, while Quinn’s Johnny Storm has a more astronaut-like, retro costume on. When he gets into his Human Torch form, the MCU’s version of Johnny will look remarkably close to the Human Torch’s original design in Marvel Comics thanks to the suit’s lines that are spread over his body.

Not much has been confirmed about The Fantastic Four. However, the movie looks to be set in the past. That would mark a clear divide between Quinn’s Johnny Storm and Evans’ Human Torch, with the MCU version of the Fantastic Four being teased to exist in the 1960s while the team from the 2000s movies existed at that time. Given the multiverse and how Evans has shown that he would be willing to reprise his Human Torch role, there is a chance that Quinn and Evans’ versions of Johnny Storm could cross paths in the future after The Fantastic Four.
