Marvel Studios can introduce this iconic villain as their next big baddie replacing Jonathan Majors’ Kang.

2021’s Eternals introduced audiences to a new team of heroes in the MCU. The film boasted a fantastic ensemble cast led by Gemma Chan and Richard Madden. Being helmed by an Oscar-winning director, Chloe Zhao, one expected that the film was going to be one of the best in the franchise, especially with Kevin Feige doubling down on his belief in its quality.

The film received mixed reviews from fans and underperformed at the box office. That has been a bit of a constant for the MCU for the past 2 years. With Jonathan Majors now out as Kang, a sequel to Eternals can introduce a powerful villain who is as threatening as Thanos and can be the MCU’s replacement for Kang.

Eternals Villain Uranos Can Be The Perfect Replacement for Kang

The MCU is now without its next big bad after Thanos. Jonathan Majors‘ Kang was built up as the next threat to the multiverse but the character did not connect with fans due to its underwhelming presentation in Ant-Man 3. Additionally, the firing of Majors sealed the fate of Kang, and the character is not expected to appear in future films.

For now, no one knows who will replace Kang and be the overarching villain of the multiverse saga, especially the upcoming Avengers films. However, there is one character from the Eternals lore that can be a perfect big bad for the MCU. Uranos, who in the comics, is Thanos’ grand-uncle can be introduced in a sequel to 2021’s Eternals and can serve as a worthy threat for the MCU’s heroes.

Writer Kieron Gillen gave the character a much-needed upgrade in his Eternals comic run which he co-wrote with Esad Ribić. In an interview with Looper, Gillen expressed his intention “to give an iconic counterpart to Thanos” with Uranos. This proves that Uranos will be the perfect villain to follow up Thanos in the current MCU.

The Eternals, including Gemma Chan and Angelina Jolie, are sure to return in the future of the MCU. With the upcoming two Avengers films, the current Avengers and Eternals can come together to face Uranos after he has been introduced to a potential Eternals 2. It remains to be seen whether Marvel Studios considers having the iconic villain as their multiversal baddie.

Oscar-Winning Writer Was Developing an Eternals TV Show

Chloe Zhao’s Eternals received mediocre reviews when it was released in 2021. Many were dismissive of the film’s treatment of the characters and the underwhelming narrative. Recently, Oscar-winning writer John Ridley revealed that he was developing an Eternals TV show years before the film came out.

Ridley stated that his version of the Eternals was very weird and a good version according to him. He threw shade at the 2021 film stating that the MCU’s presentation of the character was not a good one. He told Comicbook Club,

“It was a television version of The Eternals. My version was the good version. It was so fucking weird. There was my version, a good version, which is good to me… There was the version that [Marvel] ended up doing, which I don’t think that version was particularly good. I’ll be honest.”

With the Eternals coming back in the future, one expects that the studio and the filmmakers will improve the characterization and narrative of the Eternals lore. Fans can watch Zhao’s Eternals on Disney+.
