Andrew Garfield’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ box office record does not look good for the movie.

Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man

Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man franchise did not live up to the expectations of Sony which propelled the scrapping of the potential third installment. Recently, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone starrer The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hit the theaters again but the collection of the rerelease was not impressive.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has picked up rather an odd record, the movie’s rerelease has put it in the spot of lowest opening from any Spider-Man rerelease so far. The Marc Webb-directed movie claimed $709 million at the box office as per The Numbers. The feat was impressive but considering the huge budget of over $200 million and marketing costs the movie needed a little more to extend into another movie.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Rerelease Record

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 rerelease box office is far less spectacle and the movie went on to claim the lowest opening from any Spider-Man rerelease record but the movie has its fanbase. Especially, after Andrew Garfield‘s Spider-Man made a spectacular return in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside Tobey Maguire, fans hailed the Spider-Man trio on the big screen.

The extension of the Garfield-led Spider-Man was possible and Marc Webb wanted another sequel, if not more. In a chat with Collider, the director revealed his intention behind the potential later installments that never happened.

“I wanted to create a universe that works in and of itself for one movie, but I wanted to create a universe that not only can withstand but anticipate future storylines. Movies like this tend to have sequels, [although] ultimately the audience will tell us if they want one. But I kind of thought it was an interesting thing to anticipate those storylines and think about the back stories and how we can parlay those into an ongoing story.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was also not much of a critical glory, the movie claimed a 51% score on Rotten Tomatoes which was below expectation. Regardless, Garfield’s Spider-Man was different from the rest and had a unique tale to tell.

Fans Are Surprised After The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Rerelease Record

Amazing Spider-Man

Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man movie series was not an utter disappointment, it has done fairly well but the intention behind the franchise was to grab more cash. There was a huge difference in global and domestic collections albeit totaling a good number. However, the ambition behind the projects was huge and Sony wanted several installments out of it.

Nevertheless, the release of the movie was expected to have a splash but it was squandered again collecting only $500,000 in the rerelease opening. But fans have a mixed reaction to the whole rerelease collection ordeal.

Marvel fans have expected that Garfield’s Spider-Man would come back to the big screen after receiving a huge reception in Spider-Man: No Way Home but there have not been any reports from Sony to back the speculation. With the rerelease gross of the movie, it seems that the potential sequel has been sealed for eternity.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is now showing in select theaters, the movie is also available to stream on Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, Fobo TV, Starz, and FX Now.
