“I’m probably pretty replaceable”: Chris Hemsworth’s Thor Remarks is a Wake Up Call for Kevin Feige to Stop Making the Strongest Avenger Feel Disposable

Chris Hemsworth sides with Marvel fans, reveals he has always felt undervalued as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the vast realm of Marvel Comics and among the plethora of enticing and intriguing characters,  Thor, the God of Thunder, occupies a separate place and fan base. Known for his larger-than-life, regal personality, the comic version vastly differs from Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fans have for years pointed out how the MCU took away the gravitas and depth of Thor by making him more humane and humorous, almost as if he was a parody of the comic book character. Hemsworth, in a new vulnerable and pretty intimate interview, revealed how he felt the same way about Thor.

While fans might not like the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of Thor, many of them would agree that Chris Hemsworth as Thor is one of the best casting decisions that Marvel Studios has ever made. From his looks to Hemsworth’s personality, the actor feels pretty worthy to play a character as grand as the Norse God of Thunder.

Yet, fans and critics have often disliked how Marvel chose to belittle the character by making him less Godly and more humane. Depicted as this emotional, vulnerable, and quirky character, Thor, despite having a strong sense of honor and duty, feels more like a parody imprint of the character rather than the cosmic entity he is.

And even Hemsworth feels the same way, as he revealed in Vanity Fair‘s latest cover story.

“Sometimes I felt like a security guard for the team. I would read everyone else’s lines, and go, Oh, they got way cooler stuff. They’re having more fun. What’s my character doing? It was always about, ‘You’ve got the wig on. You’ve got the muscles. You’ve got the costume. Where’s the lighting?’ Yeah, I’m part of this big thing, but I’m probably pretty replaceable.”

Stated the Australian native while talking about his Asgardian character. Yet, the actor revealed he got a bit too carried away while filming Thor: Love & Thunder, a feat that he still regrets to this day.

Even Marvel Fans Agree With Chris Hemsworth

Marvel fans for a decade and more have been stating how Chris Hemsworth’s Thor needs more gravitas and seriousness. Although Taika Watiti‘s Thor: RagnarokInfinity War, and Endgame felt like a step in the right direction, Love & Thunder undid it all in one go.

While Hemsworth regrets losing himself too much in the role, his comments hint that Kevin Feige is out to step up finally. Hemsworth is the only original Avenger left and stated he wants to go back at least once to undo the damage his last appearance did.

And now even Marvel fans have been demanding that Feige should turn the narrative around and let him become the hero he is.

Not wanting to be an overly self-important, pretentious wanker, Chris Hemsworth hints that he would only come back if his character is valued. While he understands he owes the audience one more go at the character, fans hope that Hemsworth’s next appearance as the Asgardian would be more in line with comics.

Although a potential Thor 5 doesn’t seem to be releasing anytime soon, Chris Hemsworth will be next seen as the charming Dr. Dementus in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, releasing on May 24, 2024.
