“I Wish He Was Here”: Sofronio Vasquez Breaks Down Remembering His Late Father After The Voice USA Victory. His Emotional Tribute Will Break Your Heart

Sofronio Vasquez became emotional as he remembered his late father, whom he called his “hero.”

In his GMA Integrated News interview with Nelson Canlas, Sofronio said that he knows how happy his father would have been for his “The Voice USA” win if he was still alive.

“Kasi mahilig siyang kumanta. He was my coach, pero hindi ko na masasabi sa kaniya na nanalo ako. Hindi niya na ako mapagyayabang sa mga friends niya,” he said.

During times when he would lack confidence in himself, Sofronio would talk to his dad in his mind.

“Sinasabi ko lang na ‘Kung andito ka, anong sasabihin mo sa ‘kin?’ Ta’s naririnig ko lang ‘yung boses niya na ‘Just breathe. Kayang-kaya mo ‘yan.’ Always naman ‘yon nagsasabi sa akin na every time na kumanta ka, don’t forget to do sign of the cross,” he said.

In memory of his father, Sofronio would always do the sign of the cross.

He also shared about his “The Voice USA” coach Michael Buble, who he considers a mentor and guide.

“Ang na-appreciate ko dun, Michael Buble would always tell me you don’t have to be technically perfect ’cause you’re a person. Sometimes, perfection is boring. Imperfection is better,” he said.

Sofronio returned to the Philippines this January after making history in December as the first Filipino and Asian to win “The Voice USA.”

He had a grand homecoming on “It’s Showtime” and paid a courtesy call on President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at the Malacañang Palace.
