In the many Spider-Man films that have come out over the years, there is one that would take the award for being the most emotional. Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 absolutely wrecked fans of the character. On top of the exceptional acting, cast, and storyline, the final act of the movie was emotional, to say the least.

Few scenes in the MCU have had an effect as great as Gwen Stacy’s death in the final scenes of the film. The performance of the actors, the implication, and the significance of it have lasted to this very date. It is safe to say that no one was able to hold back their tears when they first saw the scene, and it would seem that Garfield is one of them.

What Was Andrew Garfield’s Reaction To The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

During the promotion of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Andrew Garfield gave an interview with Yahoo!Entertainment, where he talked about the film. He specifically talked about his initial impression of the movie. The actor revealed that he had a meeting with Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the writers of the movie, where they showed him the finished version of the script for the very first time.

“I sat with [writers] Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman in a restaurant for lunch in New York, and they pitched me this movie… And I was crying” said Garfield.

When the actor read the script, he could not help but get emotional. So much so, that Garfield started crying right there. While it was not confirmed back then, as the movie was yet to be released, it would not be too far-fetched to assume that the reason for such an emotional reaction was the fate of Emma Stone’s character.

The Script Was Emotional For Andrew Garfield

Andrew Garfield then explained the reason behind his sadness, as he could not reveal the truth at the time. He mentioned that the writers said some very kind words to him about the movie. Since everyone present cared very deeply about the character, they could not help but get emotional. This is why the third film not being made was all the more unfortunate.

“I was really emotionally moved by what they said to me. And I think a lot of my emotion was because these two guys love the character as much as I do.”

The second movie left Peter Parker in a very broken and battered place. Not only did he lose the love of his life, but he also found out something that would shatter him more. In a deleted scene of the film, it is revealed that his father has been alive all this time.

It was also confirmed that Shailene Woodley would be playing the role of Mary Jane Watson in the films that were to follow. There was a lot planned for the series that was never executed. Knowing that Garfield’s character did not get to finish his story in the same universe only added more tragedy to the situation.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is available for streaming on Disney +.
