Ben Affleck is reportedly being eyed to play an MCU character, but his past comments are making his return to the superhero genre seem unlikely.

Ben Affleck has donned a lot of roles throughout his spectacular career as an actor in the entertainment industry. This includes superhero roles in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as the DC Extended Universe. But despite being such a tremendous actor with a versatile range, working in the superhero genre didn’t quite seem to work out for him the way it should have.

Nonetheless, recent reports from an industry insider are claiming that the MCU is, once again, reportedly in talks with Affleck for a mystery role. However, while these reports may leave those fans of his who have been waiting so long to see him don a costume once again hopeful, the 51-year-old mastermind’s past comments on superhero films are more than enough to crash that hope.

MCU Reportedly Eyeing Ben Affleck But He Has Already Made His Choice Clear

More than two decades after he played the fan-favorite Devil of Hell’s Kitchen in the brutally underrated and flopped movie Daredevil, the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be looking forward to bringing Ben Affleck into the franchise back again.

This comes after reports from industry insider Daniel Richtman (via his Patreon), which claim that the Good Will Hunting actor has reportedly been in talks with the superhero franchise MCU to join in for a mystery role yet to be disclosed publically.

However, as much as this news would make his fans happy, one thing still needs to be remembered: Ben Affleck‘s take on doing more superhero movies after the critically panned by fans box-office bomb, DCEU’s Justice League from 2017.

Back in 2023, a little over half a decade after Justice League happened, the Air star made it evident just how uninterested he was in the superhero genre after working on the DCEU flop among fans. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said: “I’m out. I never want to do any of this again. I’m not suited.”

That’s not all. For what he further said about how the Justice League made him feel about it all makes it all the worse. He said:

“I don’t want to participate in this in any way. And I don’t want to squander any more of my life, of which I have a limited amount.”

Needless to say, his statements are more than enough to make these reports from scooper Daniel Richtman sound like a false alarm. But, then again, what if it’s only true and Affleck is, in fact, contemplating rejoining hands with the MCU?

Well, in the unlikely case of that event, fans are already debating which mystery character could best suit their favorite Gone Girl actor now.

Although fans are still aware of Ben Affleck’s opinions on superhero movies as a whole that were induced thanks to Justice League, a lot of them are still hoping he would change his mind and join forces with the MCU. That said, his fans have many different prospects on who he could play.

While quite a few are in favor of seeing him as Daredevil once again, even if it’s in the form of a cameo, others are hoping he could be Doctor Doom. Besides these, some other roles fans expect him to don include that of Graydon Creed and Dario Agger.

All in all, here’s what they have to say on X about this news:

Though there is a high chance that Ben Affleck stays true to his word on donning a cape or a superhero costume once again, there’s nothing wrong in hoping he changes his mind and actually agrees to jump back into the MCU with his glorious swag. Who knows?
