“I guarantee you they’d be lapping it up”: Marvel Fans Can Hate She-Hulk All They Want But Tatiana Maslany’s 1 Poignant Scene About Mental Health Was a Rare Gem That Hit Hard

Even though fans love to hate on She-Hulk, one scene from the series stood out, showcasing mental health struggles of the protagonist.

She-Hulk has famously gained a reputation as one of the worst Marvel shows to date. Fans have been more than just critical of the series, ripping it to shreds in every way possible and using it as a cautionary tale for the decline of the superhero genre. However, many forget that the show wasn’t a complete failure.

After her solo show, She-Hulk's future is uncertain for now

Although it was certainly something new for many fans, it brought about a new layer of representation to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which was famously lacking in female representation. Nothing showcases this better than one scene about the anger that Tatiana Maslany’s character experienced on a daily basis.

She-Hulk’s Best Scene

After being exposed to Bruce Banner’s blood, Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters spends a lot of time training to go back into modern society and fit in as a superhero. At one point, Banner is teaching his cousin how to control her anger through meditation, when Walters tries to explain to him that she does not need any help in that area.

Trying to explain to him that women frequently have to control their anger to fit into modern-day society, she pointed out that it would be very difficult for her to survive if she did not know how to control her emotions. She was even able to change from her Hulk form to herself very easily, surprising Banner.

This scene infuriated more than a few fans, as one of the biggest parts of Banner’s story was to control his anger and manage when he shifts into the Hulk. Knowing that this part was a walk in the park for She-Hulk seems to not sit right with many fans.

However, recently a fan pointed out a double standard among Marvel fans when it comes to talking about men’s mental health and women’s mental health.

A Bias or a Misunderstanding?

Recently, Twolettermo on X started a conversation around the scene, and what they had to say was quite interesting. They pointed out that if this exact scene was in a Deadpool film and was said by a man instead of a woman, fans would have fawned over it obsessively and talked about how men’s mental health is not talked about enough.

However, since it was in She-Hulk and said by Tatiana Maslany’s character, fans are ripping it to shreds. There is a visible bias between talking about men’s and women’s mental health, according to the fan.

While many may argue that Banner has suffered more than Walters, the scene was not a comparison of trauma but a moment to highlight a struggle that real people go through, not raging green monsters.
