“I Couldn’t Breathe”: Jon Bernthal Has No Idea of His Own Monstrous Strength, Nearly Broke Charlie Cox’s Ribs While Shooting Daredevil

Charlie Cox almost returned with a broken rib after filming this particular scene in the original Daredevil series.

Almost five years after Jon Bernthal was seen flirting with Daredevil in Daredevil Season 2 finale, the character will be making an epic return to the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again. Bernthal’s The Punisher has been a fan-favorite character for obvious reasons ever since he first showed up on our screens as part of his 2017 solo series.

Originally a Force Recon official, the Punisher is forced into vigilantism after the loss of his family, and is seen determined to clean up Hell’s Kitchen. The two characters are even seen embroiled in an epic fight before Bernthal’s character shoots Daredevil and escapes.

As it turns out, the particular scene did not only leave an impact on the viewers. Instead, the same was true for Charlie Cox, as Bernthal revealed in an interview how he almost broke the Daredevil actor’s ribs, while shooting the particular scene.

Jon Bernthal almost broke Charlie Cox’s ribs while shooting scenes for Daredevil

Two of the most popular Marvel characters who found their starts on TV shows, fans have constantly clamored for Daredevil and The Punisher to join mainstream MCU. And while that has in a way come true for Daredevil, who was seen previously in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the same has not happened for Bernthal’s intense superhero.

Regardless, via the Daredevil series, fans were treated to the next best thing, as we saw the two slug it out in Season 2. As it turns out, during the shooting of the epic scene, Bernthal delivered a kick to Cox’s chest, which almost ended up breaking his ribs: He kicked me so hard in the chest, I couldn’t breathe like I was winded. I had to take a minute.

Cox revealed the above after being asked about breaking Bernthal’s nose. The Punisher and The Walking Dead star has had his nose broken at least ‘15 times,’ but thankfully, none of those incidents came during the shooting of Daredevil.

The same of course, was not true for Charlie Cox, who had the wind knocked out of his chest with one kick from Bernthal.

Jon Bernthal promises Daredevil: Born Again wil kick things up a notch

It is once again a good time to be an MCU fan. Following the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, multiple major TV shows and movies will make their way to our screens in the coming time, leading to some familiar hype. Apart from Agatha All Along and Captain America: Brave New World, fans are also excited about Daredevil: Born Again, and have every right to be so.

With the original series continuing to be recognized as one of the most popular created by Marvel in recent years, Jon Bernthal believes that fans will like the upcoming show even more:We’re all here, we’re all enormously happy to be with each other, we’re proud of what we did. If you’re a fan of the (previous) show, you’re gonna be e

normously happy. I think if you’re a fan of the show that you saw before, you’re gonna be a fan of this. I think we’re just taking it a step further.

While it is unclear what taking things ‘a step further’ means, a range of possibilities exist. The Punisher and Daredevil might as well be on their way to mainstream MCU once and for all. On the other hand, the actor may simple be referring to an epic team-up, which can also be expected to generate incessant hype amongst viewers.

Daredevil: Born Again is expected to be released in March 2025.
