X-Men ‘97: Fans Can’t Stop Talking About Magneto & Wolverine’s Epic Moment

When we thought there wouldn’t be any more unexpected developments in Beau DeMayoX-Men ‘97, one of the worst cliffhangers from the show to date came to light in this week’s middle chapter of the three-part Tolerance Is Extinction finale.

As Professor X leads one team to Asteroid M to confront Magneto, it’s Wolverine who steps up to take on the Master of Magnetism. But instead of emerging victorious, Logan suffers a devastating blow as Magneto rips the Adamantium from his skeleton, leaving fans in shock and disbelief. Taking inspiration from the pages of the comics, the show recreated a pivotal moment from X-Men (Vol. 2) #25, also known as Fatal Attractions Part 4.

The emotional intensity reaches its peak in the episode, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats. Let’s hear some of the comments left by fans:

A layer of complexity is added to this epic feud by the tension that exists between Professor X and Magneto, as well as the similarities and differences between their characters.

Ross Marquand Dives Deep into the Complex Bond of Professor X & Magneto

Magneto has appeared frequently in X-Men ’97 thus far. However, it appears that the finale will feature Professor X prominently. In an interview with ComicBook’s Phase Zero podcast, Professor X voice actor Ross Marquand talked about the character’s relationship with Magneto.

The actor, like many other X-Men fans, believes that the characters are very similar. However, their differences create a distance that fosters this rivalry. In Tolerance Is Extinction, viewers can see this feud blow up with terrible consequences.

Marquand shared: “They’re like brothers, they really are, and I have likening it to Thor and Loki. It’s not dissimilar at all. I think someone had made the allusion many years ago, I think it might have been Stan Lee, but basically it said that Charles Xavier is Martin Luther King, right? And Magneto was Malcolm X. Because a lot of the X-Men originally was written around the time of the Civil Rights Movement and that was not accidental, that was very intentional.”

As for the episode, X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo has taken to X to share some thoughts, beginning with the confrontation between Wolverine and the Master of Magnetism.

So, for all the Wolverine fans out there, prepare for an exciting ride, as we may certainly witness some more unforeseen twists and turns in the second season of  X-Men ’97. Magneto may have struck a devastating blow, but Wolverine’s story is definitely far from over in the world of X-Men ’97.
