Krysten Ritter looks at the possibility of returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe nearly half a decade after the Jessica Jones TV show ended its run. As Marvel Studios has been expanding the MCU timeline with original TV shows on Disney+, the previous Marvel TV era has also been slowly making a comeback. After years of debating in the audience whether or not they were canon to the larger franchise, Marvel Studios finally made the call to canonize all of the Marvel TV shows that originally ran on Netflix, including Jessica Jones.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, while promoting Orphan Black: Echoes, Ritter’s time as Jessica Jones was discussed. When the actress was asked if she would be ready for a return to the MCU if Marvel Studios were to reach out, Ritter made it crystal clear that she would be happy to come back as the iconic heroine, sharing the following:
One hundred percent. I am ready, and I would, of course, be there in a heartbeat. She’s a character who I absolutely love, and she was a part of my life for so long. I played that character for five years, and she’s a character who’s very important to me and many women and men. So if the opportunity calls, I may or may not have an extra jacket already.
Which MCU Project Could Jessica Jones Return In First?
It is less likely about if they will bring Ritter’s Jessica back to the MCU and more so when they will feature again in the franchise. The immediate MCU project that is a no-brainer to include Ritter in is the Daredevil: Born Again TV show, which would let her be reunited with Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, years after The Defenders series. Daredevil: Born Again would also properly be able to reestablish what Jessica has been up to since the events of Jessica Jones season 3.
Even though the film is still in development, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 would also be an ideal place for Jessica to make her grand MCU return. While plot points have yet to be confirmed by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, it has been heavily speculated that the sequel will be more street-level focused, which is perfect for Jessica, as she was one of the MCU’s more prominent gritty superheroes. It also benefits the story that both Jessica and Peter are New York-based, which makes it very organic for them to cross paths.
It would be genuinely shocking if Marvel Studios went through all the work to make the Marvel-Netflix shows canon to the MCU, only not to bring back players like Ritter as Jessica, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, or Finn Jones as Iron Fist. If anything, even if they don’t get solo projects, it would make sense if they are seen again in the MCU at least once before The Multiverse Saga is over. But until she comes back to the MCU, the audience can relive every season of Jessica Jones on Disney+.
