Hugh Jackman’s Reaction To Seeing My Favorite Deadpool & Wolverine Fight Scene For The First Time Makes It Even Better

My favorite Deadpool & Wolverine fight scene is all the greater after having seen Hugh Jackman’s initial reaction to the MCU movie moment. As someone who’s been a long-time fan of Deadpool and Wolverine both in and out of their movies, the news that the iconic duo’s shared comic run was getting an adaptation of sorts that would also add the characters into the MCU timeline was truly promising. Thankfully, the movie itself did not disappoint.

While the Deadpool & Wolverine cast was full of exciting figures, many of the movie’s best scenes belonged to its titular heroes, and their complex path from reluctant allies to characters willing to sacrifice their lives for each other – though the Deadpool & Wolverine ending reveals neither has to die to save the world. Naturally, this journey includes its fair share of fight scenes, with its heroes fighting for and against one another at different points. My favorite of these frays got all the cooler after the movie’s release, thanks to Hugh Jackman’s behind the scenes story about the scene.

Hugh Jackman’s Reaction To Seeing Deadpool & Wolverine’s Honda Odyssey Fight Scene Makes It Even Better

Assembled: The Making Of Deadpool & Wolverine sees Hugh Jackman address the iconic fight scene between the two titular heroes that takes place almost entirely inside a Honda Odyssey. Jackman mentions that he was delighted about the fight and how it looked from the first moment he saw the test sequence for it, which was recorded for posterity.

Assembled: The Making Of Deadpool & Wolverine was released on Disney+ on November 12, 2024.

The Assembled documentary even shows this recording of the actor witnessing the choreography for Wolverine and Deadpool facing down. Just as Hugh Jackman says, he looks decidedly delighted watching the footage, later remarking that “it was just the most genius thing I had ever seen“.

Why Deadpool & Wolverine’s Honda Odyssey Fight Scene Is So Good

First and foremost, the car fight scene is impressive on a logistical level, since it almost entirely takes place in such a small place compared to what we’d generally expect from superhero films, wherein you often need a good chunk of space to show off a character’s flashy powers to their fullest. On a story level, it also works effectively to bring the dramatic tensions simmering throughout the movie to a full-throttle boil, giving audiences a clash that makes the pair’s willingness to sacrifice their lives for one another at the end of the story all the more meaningful.

Deadpool & Wolverine is full of phenomenal fight scenes, many of which will likely eternally hold a spot in the list of the MCU’s all-time greatest showdowns. However, I think the unique nature of the Honda brawl will always make it my favorite – especially knowing that Hugh Jackman himself had more or less the exact same reaction to seeing it for the first time that I did.
