“His death will be way more impactful”: Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom Killing Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Will Destroy the Multiverse in Avengers: Doomsday and Lead to Secret Wars (Theory)

A new theory from Reddit suggests that Doctor Doom will bring about the end of the multiverse by killing a key character in the Sacred Timeline.

Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU has gotten a lot of fans speculating about how the upcoming Avengers films will play out. Given that the former Tony Stark actor will be essaying the role of Doctor Doom, fans are sure that his appearance in the MCU is going to have some dramatic and emotional consequences for characters like Bruce Banner and Spider-Man.

A theory has been making the rounds on the internet that Doctor Doom is going to use a particular concept introduced in Deadpool & Wolverine to take over the multiverse. This in particular would be an emotional gut punch, given that involves Tom Holland’s Spider-Man biting the dust by the time the credits roll on Avengers: Doomsday.

A theory, posited by Reddit user u/Relative-Athlete-477, suggests that Spider-Man is going to be murdered by Doctor Doom, who he would have mistaken for Tony Stark.

There have been a lot of rumors that suggest that Spider-Man is the Anchor Being for The Sacred Timeline. If Doom were to slay Spider-Man, The Sacred Timeline, and by extension the entire multiverse would collapse, leaving only the End of Time.

As Avengers: Doomsday ends on such a cliffhanger, the events of Avengers: Secret Wars can pick up in the void, as characters try to escape Doom’s Battleworld. this could range from finding another Spider-Man to stabilize the Sacred Timeline with or having another character (like Loki) restore the Tree of Life through Doom’s or Doctor Strange’s magic.

Avengers: Secret Wars will probably soft reboot the MCU, removing Anchor Beings and Nexus Beings

After Doctor Doom has destroyed the multiverse, whoever recreates it would realize how vulnerable timelines become with Nexus Beings and Anchor Beings being present in them. This could lead to a reorganization of the Multiverse, such that there are no Anchor Beings or Nexus Beings in any universe, so no individual is burdened with so much power and importance.

By doing this, it would be easier for Marvel to continue Spider-Man’s story in the MCU without there being a million questions about why the character is not being kept safe by the Avengers and such.

Further, it remains to be seen what the MCU looks like in the wake of Secret Wars, as it is heavily rumored that the film will serve as a jumping-off point for a soft reboot of the MCU. This could mean that Marvel could re-establish the MCU, and create stories with a little more authenticity, given that it now has the rights to more of its characters as compared to the beginning of the MCU.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theatres on May 1, 2026.
