Hideo Kojima’s 6-Word Review of Madame Web Sparks Intrigue

Famed video game designer Hideo Kojima offers his thoughts on the recent Sony Spider-Man spin-off movie Madame Web in a very brief review.

Hideo Kojima, best known for his work on video games like the Metal Gear Solid franchise, has added his voice to the many Madame Web reviews online. Kojima has weighed in on other Marvel projects before, even offering praise for movies like Avengers: Endgame. More recently, Kojima complimented Oscar Isaac for his work in Moon Knight. However, when Kojima doesn’t like a movie, he has a specific way of letting audiences know without being overly negative.

Hideo Kojima decided to express his dissatisfaction with Madame Web on X (formerly Twitter), not through a scathing review, but by simply letting audiences know he had seen it. This has become Kojima’s personal shorthand for films he doesn’t like. Kojima’s tweet about Madame Web can be seen below:

Kojima seems to be a big believer in saying nothing if one has nothing nice to say, writing simply, “Saw Madame Web at the theater.” However, as Kojima hasn’t been shy about praising movies in the past, his silence speaks volumes about his opinion on Madame Web. Kojima has joined the likes of other creators criticizing Madame Web, such as Mike Flanagan.

What Hideo Kojima’s 6-Word Review Of Madame Web Means

When Hideo Kojima enjoys a movie or TV show, he will often be much more direct about that in his reviews. For example, Kojima’s Moon Knight review uses pretty much every character afforded to him by X (formerly Twitter). Contrasting this with Kojima simply saying that he saw Madame Web makes it clear he had no positive thoughts to share about the film. Kojima has had similarly brief reviews of other Marvel movies in the past.

One Twitter user @M3a411 showed this contrast by posting Kojima’s reviews of Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel next to one another. Another user, @CultureCrave even compiled a list of all the movies across multiple genres that Kojima has given one-sentence reviews of in the past. This clear pattern shows that Kojima isn’t going to spend a lot of time or words talking about movies he doesn’t like. Instead, simply letting his followers know he has seen Madame Web with no additional details is an easy way for Kojima to condemn the movie with a lack of praise.
