Emily in Paris': Should Emily End Up With Gabriel or Marcello? – DNyuz

For four seasons, Netflix’s Emily in Paris has focussed on the on-and-off relationship between Emily and Gabriel. Sparks fly between the marketing executive and the charming chef almost instantaneously when the former arrives in France from the US in the first season.

Though both have feelings for each other, their relationship has not been able to last even for one season, and they keep getting stuck in love triangles. While fans were rooting for the two to end up together, the ‘will they or won’t they’ plot has been so exaggerated that the two should move on from each other for good.

They indeed have chemistry, but being in a relationship needs something more than that. Every time Emily and Gabriel have tried to come together in Emily in Paris they have made mistakes and have ended up hurting each other.

Why Emily should not end up with Gabriel in Emily in Paris

Emily and Gabriel’s relationship in Emily in Paris has way too many issues. Both have poor communication and come with emotional baggage, which leads to no real growth as a couple or as individuals.

The series repeatedly shows how they fail to connect, which makes it clear that they need to let go. One of the biggest problems between Emily and Gabriel is the lack of communication. Gabriel often gets frustrated because he has to speak in English all the time.

When he finally speaks his feelings in French, Emily is not able to understand him. Over time, the language barrier has turned into an emotional disconnect. While Emily focuses more on romantic fantasies, Gabriel needs a grounded relationship.

Gabriel's Emily In Paris Love Triangle & Relationship Timeline Explained

Another problem is Gabriel’s unresolved drama with Camille. Camille somehow always comes into the picture. Even when it feels like she has found a girlfriend and is ready to leave her past behind, she returns to Gabriel and Emily’s lives.

From faking her pregnancy to breaking a pact with Emily, Camille goes to great lengths to ensure she stays around Gabriel. Gabriel, too, remains confused in the complicated situation and is not able to set his priorities straight.

For instance, in Emily in Paris season 4 , he leaves Emily at a mountain top alone and goes skiing with Camille, despite being aware that Emily does not know how to ski. As Emily goes through a tough time on the mountain, she realizes it is better to break things off with Gabriel.

However, the chef is once again ready to woo her by the end of the season, continuing the loop. Instead of growing together, Emily and Gabriel are just repeating the same patterns for multiple seasons, which has gotten tiring for the viewers.

Emily is at her best when she moves on from Gabriel, like when she starts dating Alfie or Marcello. These men bring out the positive side of her. Especially, Marcello’s easygoing nature and lack of drama give Emily the happiness and stability she needs in Italy, away from all the mess that goes on in Paris.

Both Emily and Gabriel have to break away from their toxic pattern if they want stability and growth in their lives. While they do have feelings for each other, their relationship is full of troubles that keep them from being happy.

At the end of Emily in Paris season 4, Emily has a shot at a fresh start as she is in Italy with Marcello. However, Gabriel is likely to follow her there, which will once again lead to a love triangle, giving the audience the same old story.

It is high time Gabriel and Emily move on from each other, and the creators move on from their romance to bring some novelty and liveliness into the series.

Emily in Paris seasons 1 to 4 are streaming on Netflix.
