Henry Cavill has left DC, and now that he is no longer Superman, the actor could join the MCU in a few different roles, including the one he wants to.

Henry Cavill is free to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and there are three perfect roles for the actor that would allow him to have a long run in the franchise. Cavill saw his name become known worldwide for giving life to the most recognizable superhero of all time: Superman. The actor was the star of the first film in the shared DC Extended Universe, 2013’s Man of Steel, and went on to appear in a handful of films at DC during the time when the MCU’s best movies were coming out.

Now, the timing is right for Cavill to switch sides and move from DC to Marvel. The MCU’s Multiverse Saga has proven itself to be quite controversial, with some of its projects breaking negative records for the franchise. At the same time, Cavill is no longer attached to DC’s Superman, with James Gunn having recast Clark Kent and picked David Corenswet to take on the role in 2025’s Superman. Cavill has been fancast as many characters for Marvel’s upcoming movies, and three roles would give him the impactful MCU part Cavill deserves.

Henry Cavill Is The Ideal Replacement For Hugh Jackman As Wolverine

Jackman Is Coming Back For At Least One More Movie

Hugh Jackman has made a name for himself as the most popular actor to come out of Fox’s X-Men movie franchise. The actor has played Wolverine since 2000’s X-Men, going through different movie timelines, a solo trilogy of movies that went all over the place in terms of quality, and now the MCU. After almost 25 years playing Logan, Jackman will be coming back as a version — or more — of the character in the MCU’s Deadpool & Wolverine. However, that does not mean he will be Marvel Studios’ Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s multiversal story is perfect to serve as a finale to Jackman’s time as Logan. The movie could do what Avengers: Endgame did, with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Jackman’s Wolverine taking some sort of victory lap through Fox’s X-Men franchise. Even if Jackman chooses not to hang the claws just yet, the actor is too old to play the MCU’s Wolverine. Jackman could continue in the role until Avengers: Secret Wars, with the finale of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga also serving as the ending of Jackman’s time as Wolverine.

Note: Hugh Jackman is 55 years old, while Henry Cavill is more than a decade younger, at 40.

Then, the path would be open for another actor to take on Wolverine, and Cavill might just be the perfect pick for the role. After playing Superman, the actor deserves to have a major role in the MCU, and Wolverine being the most popular member of the X-Men gives him that. As Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The WitcherCavill showed that he can play a violent, gruff character with a heart like Logan to perfection. The star has the fighting skills, imposing physique, and dramatic chops to make Wolverine a force to be reckoned with.

Henry Cavill’s Major Multiverse Saga Role Could Be Captain Britain

The Actor Has Spoken About The Role Before

While Wolverine would be a big-name role for Cavill in the MCU, there are other ways for the actor to play a major role in the franchise without having to give life to an already-established character. Captain Britain would present the star with the opportunity to leave his mark on the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. The character is part of the Captain Britain Corps in the comics, which is a team of different Captain Britains from all over the multiverse who each have to guard their own individual reality.

Cavill is open to playing Captain Britain in the MCU. Rumors about Cavill joining Marvel have existed for quite some time, even during the actors’ DC days, and Captain Britain is one of the characters that the former Superman star has frequently been mentioned as a perfect candidate for. Cavill is well aware of those rumors, with the actor having revealed that he would be game to do a modernized version of Captain Britain in the way the MCU updated Captain America with Chris Evans in the role. According to Cavill, “That would be loads of fun to do.”

After a couple of phases without a movie for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, 2026 will see the release of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, bar any further delays to the MCU’s schedule. The movie is expected to pit the new Avengers team against the Council of Kangs, which is a team of Kang the Conqueror variants that was introduced during one of the post-credits scenes of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Cavill as Brian Braddock could lead the MCU’s Captain Britain Corps, with the multiverse team of heroes balancing the fight against the Council of Kangs.

Henry Cavill As Doctor Doom Would Be A Great Subversion Of Expectations

Doom Could Debut In The Fantastic Four

Most of the options thrown around for Cavill to join the MCU are heroes, and while it would make sense for the actor to join the franchise that way, it is not the only path for a possible MCU debut for Cavill. The actor has the range to play villainous roles well, and Cavill giving life to Doctor Doom would be a nice way of subverting fans’ expectations. As Doom should mostly wear his mask, the character needs someone who can evoke fear with his voice and express emotions through body language, both of which are qualities that Cavill possesses.

Doctor Doom has been present in every movie of the Fantastic Four. With the team set to make its debut next year in Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom is likely to have at least a cameo role in the project, marking his MCU debut. After Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors was fired, the villain’s role in the MCU is up in the air. Given Doctor Doom’s importance to the story that inspired the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars, the character could potentially become the main villain of the Multiverse Saga, and Cavill could get a vital MCU role.

What Are The Chances Henry Cavill Actually Joins The MCU?

The Actor Has A Packed Schedule Ahead

Superman in Batman v Superman

While there have been rumors of Cavill playing Captain Britain and Doctor Doom, there is no confirmed role for him yet in the MCU. A part of that might be due to Cavill’s busy schedule. The actor might have left his two biggest roles — Superman in the DCEU and Geralt in The Witcher — behind; however, Cavill is developing a whole slate of projects based on the Warhammer 40,000 game at Amazon Studios. The actor will also star in the franchise, which will take most of his time for the next few years.

Cavill’s commitments to the Warhammer 40,000 projects could make things difficult for him to have a major MCU role in the coming years. However, that does not mean it will not happen. Henry Cavill has shown that he would be game to join the MCU, and the actor could make a few cameos or appear in supporting roles over the next couple of years until his schedule clears up, setting up his possible MCU character to go on to play a bigger role in the franchise in the future.
