Henry Cavill has long been fan-cast for several roles in the MCU, particularly after his departure from the DCEU, and one may see him lead the X-Men.
Acclaimed British actor Henry Cavill has been fan-cast in several roles for the MCU, and one powerful potential casting has now been imagined in brilliant X-Men art. Henry Cavill rose to international prominence after being cast as Clark Kent, a.k.a. Superman, in the DCEU’s Man of Steel, a role which he reprised on four occasions before departing the franchise following the release of 2022’s Black Adam. Since David Corenswet has now been cast as Clark Kent for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman reboot in the DC Universe, Henry Cavill has instead been heavily-rumored to be joining Marvel Studios’ ever-growing superhero franchise.
Several powerful characters from Marvel Comics have been suggested to be perfect for Henry Cavill in the MCU, including the likes of Hyperion, the Beyonder and Brian Braddock’s Captain Britain. However, another fantastic fan-cast places Henry Cavill as the MCU’s Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops, a prominent member of the X-Men in Marvel Comics. This has now been imagined in stunning fan art shared by spdrmnkyxxiii.
The art depicts Henry Cavill as a new live-action version of Scott Summers’ Cyclops, taking over from James Marsden and Tye Sheridan, who is seen removing his glasses to unleash energy beams from his eyes.
Why Henry Cavill Would Be Perfect For The MCU’s Cyclops
Henry Cavill himself has previously noted that he’d want to portray a modernized version of Captain Britain in the MCU, but casting him as Cyclops would be a bold decision by Marvel Studios. Scott Summers was introduced into Marvel Comics in 1963’s The X-Men #1, and is considered to be the first X-Men member, one of the team’s most prominent fixtures, and has led them at various times throughout their history. Whoever portrays Cyclops in the MCU needs to have gravitas, screen presence, and likability, while still being able to show vulnerability and tenderness, and Cavill fits these criteria perfectly.
Henry Cavill’s previous roles prove he would be fantastic as the steadfast leader of the X-Men in the MCU. As Superman, Cavill already led a superhero team with the DCEU’s Justice League, and began to explore the vulnerability of the godly hero, which is something that would translate perfectly into Cyclops. Cyclops is the archetypal American hero among the X-Men, which reflects his previous superhero role. On top of this, Henry Cavill perhaps has the perfect appearance for Cyclops, with a muscular physique and strong jawline that fits the costumed X-Men member brilliantly, so this casting would be very exciting.
