After the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, the Guardians returned for a sequel only this time they were up against the father of their group’s leader. Kurt Russell joined Chris Pratt and the rest of the cast for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 where he played the role of Ego the Living Planet aka Peter Quill’s father. The film ends with a face-off between the two which of course resulted in another win for Team Guardians.

Speaking to Slash Film, Chris Pratt opened up about Kurt Russell’s fatherly advice to him on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Russell and Pratt had to spend a ton of time together on set and over time, the two bonded were able to bond with each other over shared interests.

Whether it is their love of the outdoors or the fact that both of them own a cattle ranch, their common interests made sure the two bonded with each other during filming.

Not only did they have a great time together on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s film, but Russell also left Pratt with something to ponder – a sound piece of advice that perhaps everyone should try to implement in their lives.

Pratt stated, We would spend a lot of time together. We just have so much in common. […] His advice was to make sure I focus enough attention on the things in my life that I’m passionate about that aren’t my career. He and I both like to be outdoors. He’s got a cattle ranch, I’ve got a cattle ranch. […] And so he was talking about how important that was to him and carving out his own little piece of the world that was away from the Hollywood world, [and] to maintain perspective in that.

Russell was the perfect person to give this piece of advice to Pratt since he himself has been in the industry since he was twelve. Whether it is his Golden Globe or Primetime Emmy nominations or the unending list of projects under his name, Russell has continued to take the entertainment industry by storm right from 1962.

While the two were out to get each other in the film, they clearly shared an adorable bond behind the cameras. In fact, Pratt once stated that it wouldn’t be surprising if people thought the two were actually father and son in real life.

Kurt Russell’s Casting Made the Perfect Sense

Russell’s casting as Ego was nothing short of perfection as he fit into the role like a glove. He brought a unique touch to the celestial character with ulterior motives which required an actor of experience and charisma.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly about Russell’s casting, Pratt stated that when discussions about bringing Peter Quill’s father in for the sequel began, the Crypto actor was the ideal choice. However, Pratt was convinced that someone of Russell’s caliber wouldn’t want to do the role which is why he was shocked when he learnt that the veteran actor was in.

Very early on, when we knew I needed a father, Kurt was one of the very first actors that came to mind, that just made sense. It’s a piece of casting that you’re just blown away that it works out. You’re like, Kurt Russell would be a dream, only obviously he’s not going to do it. And then they’re like, ‘No, he’s gonna do it.’ You’re like, ‘Wait, what?’ [Laughs] So, that’s pretty cool. Not only is it cool for me, it would be pretty cool for Peter Quill.

Going on and on about Russell and how they bonded over time, Pratt added that he wouldn’t be surprised if people thought the actor was his actual father.

Kurt’s been in the game forever, and he’s just so talented, and cool, and such a great influence. He’s kept it really grounded, he’s a good family man, and still loves to do the same sh*t he’s always loved to do. And being an outdoorsman, we just bonded over a lot of stuff. We’re kindred spirits in that way and it’s a really great piece of casting. People wouldn’t disbelieve if we said we were father and son in real life, you know.

It’s always nice to see actors becoming each other’s family in real life after spending such a long time working together. Russell and Pratt’s bond is sure to go down in MCU’s history of iconic duos.
